On my way back from our global Boston Consulting Group (BCG) conference set in NY, reflecting on what’s truly new in the world of Consumer & Retail🌍🛒🛍️🧃 If much ☺️❓ Trends will (at a buzzword level) surprise few of you)… 💻(Gen)AI … 🌱Sustainability - very much incl biodiversity 💦 💚Purpose and inclusion … on a backdrop of uncertainty and ambiguity 📈📉⚡️ What is 🆕 is that companies are creating P&L impact (yes - the double digit potential estimates we’ve seen) - across these dimensions - by genuinely transformaing the way they serve their customers Let’s take the example of GenAI where a consumer company is driving top line growth by: ✅Synthesizing customer data into directly actionable insights ✅Accelerating speed to market ✅Giving customers a brand new shopping experience … by following a logical approach: ‘Deploy - Reshape - Invent’ Super fascinating! Last week I had the pleasure of being invited to the #MRMW Europe 2023 Conference in Berlin - the leading global conference series on #marketresearch, #customerinsights and #analytics. The event inspired and confirmed what I call the next-normal of market & consumer research. KEY PRINCIPLES of the NEXT-NORMAL: / The next-normal works with #real-#time and #behavioral #data / The next-normal seamlessly #leverages #AI for creativity / The next-normal #democratizes #data to make it actionable / The next-normal increases and #democratizes #capabilities in the team / The next-normal works with increased #optionality / The next-normal seamlessly links consumer data to #sales / The next-normal is #fast while #data #quality remains absolutely essential / The next-normal #tailored to the innovation process of the firm STEPS towards the NEXT-NORMAL: > #Deconstruct the innovation process to identify use cases to accelerate > #Design a modular toolkit of tools & platforms tailored to accelerate > #Build a cross-functional team of champions with autonomy & expertise > #Run first pilots with measurable and scalable success > #Scale use cases back into the established innovation process Below are some of my personal highlights of the event. 🍬 Sorin Patilinet explained how Mars is using consumer behavioral insights to adapt advertising to consumer preferences pre- and in-flight, leveraging both established and emerging consumer research tools to measure ad effectiveness on attention - emotion - memory level. 🚀 Anna Fordkort talked us through how Beiersdorf deconstructed the innovation process to strengthen and accelerate it piece by piece with more agile and close-to-the-consumer research methods - in a beautiful case study together with Fastuna (with Rimantas Reimontas), an agile market research platform. 💡 Mariline Alsuar inspired us with how Reckitt is leading the large and growing #sexual #wellness industry with consumer-first innovation based on highly data-driven insights and an always-on approach to build new business growth in EMEA. 💰 Ash Marriott showed how IKEA is building probably the largest set of competitive pricing information in an highly automated, collaborative and actionable way that involves all functions of the business. 📰 Seema Hope of The Economist described the data team of the future to ensure highest data quality and actionability in an age of democratized data access - and how to embrace consumer insights truly from everyone.
