What Is and What Should Never Be: STIR/SHAKEN is one means of authentication and validation (not the only one). It never was, and never will be a means of completely eliminating unlawful voice calls. Future of Branded Calling: It's not what you think! First of all, it's not about the branding - it's about trust. Legitimate businesses simply want an opportunity to engage with consumers. Learn more at: https://lnkd.in/erfxE_gp Recently, while traveling for the ITEXPO #TECHSUPERSHOW in Florida, Gerry Christensen and his wife visited a Publix Super Markets, where Gerry’s bank decided the use, their card might be a potential fraud. Probably, everyone has had the experience, especially while traveling, of having a normal transaction in place that you’re not normally at, being flagged. But what happened next gets to the heart of the problem. The bank issued a fraud alert text that Gerry did not respond to because the fraud alert text was, itself, determined to be spam by Gerry’s carrier. A live example of how legitimate business transactions are being disrupted by the degradation of basic real rime communications. Adverse call labeling can occur at the wrong time and place, and for the wrong party. Total losses from imposter fraud last year reached nearly $2.7 billion, according to the Federal Communications Commission. A 2023 survey from McAfee found that 25% of adults have experienced a similar AI voice scam — and the company says 77% of victims have lost money as a result. The company polled 7,054 adults in seven countries, including 1,009 in the United States. https://lnkd.in/eAGRT2vz
