What a great week at SynBioBeta 2024! Nice work to the team and John Cumbers for pulling together a stellar mix of innovators, visionaries, policy leaders, and investors in the syn bio community. I learned so much! There’s a palpable energy around - “let’s build more with biology” to help our planet and do it in a safe, just, and secure way. What a great a panel at SynBioBeta this week. We discussed US federal progress on the Bioeconomy Executive Order with Sarah Glaven (White House), Valerie Reed (DOE) and Gregory Jaffe (USDA). There was so much to share! Thanks to the star panelists for their tremendous work on this topic. It’s great to have government leaders here and engaging with the #synbio and #biotech community.

The Dept of Energy passed a new rule this week that will electrify all new federal buildings. Major progress for cutting climate pollution and improving air quality! There is a huge opportunity as we electrify and increase the energy efficiency of the existing 300,000 buildings in the government portfolio to improve air quality, inside and outside. https://lnkd.in/eMqG4VyC

Major news for pandemic prevention, indoor air quality, and public health in America. Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) is funding a new program on airborne disease transmission indoors. Major dollars 💰 (10s of millions) will go to the new program - BREATHE 🌬 🏢 https://lnkd.in/eGR-BaiN Congratulations Jessica Green on the launch of this new program! It's exciting to see the US government take on the challenge of making buildings healthier and more disease resilient, building from early work with the White House launch of the Clean Air in Buildings Challenge. And there are so many partners working on this across government (CDC, EPA, NIST, DOE, DOD). Let's imagine a future where buildings have clean air flowing from their vents, just like clean water from the faucet. And building ventilation helps to STOP disease spread, not contribute to it. So glad for the early momentum from Alondra Nelson, Ashish Jha, Robin Carnahan, and many others.

USDA just released a biomass supply chain report, following on Executive Order 14081, detailing how to boost biomass availability and resiliency to grow the American bioeconomy. Secretary Vilsack announced this report at the Advanced Bioeconomy Leadership Conference last week, along with other news from USDA on bioeconomy funding and activities.
