All the way from The University of Texas at Austin, our Coastal Bridge Advisors Summer 2023 intern, Nitin G. M. joined our team to assist with Marketing analytics and content creation. He is currently pursuing a degree in Economics/Plan I Honors and hails from #houstontx. “What are your three biggest takeaways from your time spent at CBA?” My three key learnings are that 1) there is a heavy emphasis on APIs and technology in today’s marketing, communications, and business development initiatives, which are imperative in addressing the firm's goals. 2) A collective understanding of the firm’s mission statement is also important in communicating with clients and ensuring team members stay on track with the firm’s and especially the clients’ goals. 3) Lastly, branding is far more valuable than I had ever considered. Learning how to communicate the firm’s value service proposition to “Uncomplicate It” for Coastal Bridge clients was an interesting process and an important added dimension of the business. “What was your favorite part about the internship?” My favorite part of this internship was learning more about and utilizing the renewed version of Google Analytics, GA4. I believe the KPIs that this updated analytics platform contains helped develop my understanding of marketing effectiveness, such as evaluating how many people were able to receive the content and messaging that Coastal Bridge had developed. “What is the greatest lesson you learned that you can apply after graduation/to your next opportunity?” My greatest lesson from this internship is that it is okay not to know the answer. We are all unfamiliar with something that someone else may have had valuable exposure to. Asking for help and networking within the firm (and using sources provided by my mentors) have been of great value during my time spent working on client communications, evaluating KPIs, and understanding the value of investment in brand marketing to help create more awareness of the firm and its services. “Any advice you would give a new intern?” I would advise working daily with a purpose and a thirst for knowledge. We are young, and sometimes, navigating a workforce and business environment that are all new can be challenging to interpret. By valuing your time at work and the community within which you are working, you can gain a greater sense of how to succeed at your current career goals and how you can mobilize yourself to build upon this experience toward your future goals.

Despite progress, the landscape remains diverse and at times ambiguous, with only 54% of graduating seniors with internships receiving payment. As we reflect on Calvin's story, it's evident that internships continue to be a vital bridge between academic theory and real-world application. Not everything is about numbers. Your LinkedIn journey is not solely about impressions. Your education is not only about grades. Your internship us not entirely about stipend. Your gym motivation is not completely about weight on the scale.   I am not saying these don’t hold value. But let’s not associate everything with numbers only. Let us also embrace the other factors. “Advice for the Intern” ep 16 As far as community builders go, Gorilla 76’s Strategist Peyton Warren is the best person I know at creating them - including the work she does with Industrial Marketing Live and her contributions to the Industrial Marketing Summit. And her advice boils down to this one statement: “Protect the integrity of the event” What does this mean? Everything that you do should fall in line with the community’s purpose. This means: 🔨 Creating resources and content to help educate members 🔨 Fostering an environment where everyone supports each other 🔨 NOT selling or using the personal information of participants selfishly 🔨 …and say “NO” to everything that doesn’t align with that one goal I think these same rules can be applied to your own personal brand, as well. Sticking to these guidelines builds trust with a community in the same way that you seek to build trust with your audience. Summer isn't quite over yet -- but our time with these wonderful interns is quickly coming to a close...they grow up so fast! :-) Our summer interns, Elizabeth Neeser, Sophia Schueller + Jeremiah Staten, put together a wonderful presentation outlining ways to help build the Br8kthru Consulting community. Some key themes: -leveraging video + rich media (think 'day in the life' or something like Vogue's 73 questions) -hosting a skills-building workshop on some of the latest trends (AI, threads, etc.), led by strategists on our team -Additional speaking engagements + expos, with an opportunity to expand our reach into underserved communities What also hit hard: they used the "we" pronoun in referencing the team--meaning our efforts to be inclusive are working. They are most certainly part of the team + our community. The future is bright for these three. #learning #continuousimprovement #community #brand #interns
