From our presenters: “undependent Rock Island is a local, citizen-based initiative promoting policy changes that recognize the critical nexus between people and infrastructure. We are specifically concerned about car-dependent design of transportation networks and buildings. We promote walkability and the use of bikes and mass transit to access essential goods and services. The health and economic benefitsof this approach are obvious and abundant. The environmental benefits are becoming ever more apparent. Our current focus is on the Hilltop Community Commercial Area (HCCA) in Rock Island – a walkable, bikeable, busable area providing a wide range of businesses and services for local and Quad City area residents. We recognize and promotethe economic, health, and environmental benefits of the HCCA. We are attempting to influence City policies and regulations, and their underlying assumptions, to sustain and improve this fragile asset. Being in business is about having vision and willingness to take risks. Partnering and investing in Anderson Barker Architects and collaborating with its visionary founder, Michael Anderson, AIA-NOMA, was more about my stage of life, building a legacy for wealth creation in our community. YES, the investment has been financially viable, but not unlike what I am doing in Philly with Black Squirrel to drive Black wealth creation through Real Estate Development, this West Coast initiative, Accelerated Housing & Transit Development is an even bolder enterprise, that attempts to leverage the Biden’s Administration $50B in Infrastructure investment for transit modernization and improvements as a springboard for expanding 40,000 single-family homes in Black and Brown neighborhoods into courtyard-style multifamily income-producing properties, as illustrated in this article, for existing homeowners in our often forgotten communities. How do we get it done (besides reading below)? By being laser-focused, targeting a half-mile hub around LA’s rail stations in underserved communities. The investment strategy revitalizes infrastructure, accelerates equitable housing development, and renews parks and public spaces. It becomes a powerful tool to push and transform the physical landscape, fortify safety, bolster sustainability, and dramatically improve living and business conditions and the public transit experience for LA Residents and visitors. Oh, not to mention the Olympics are coming in 2028. How do we know it can work? We asked McKinsey, and they validated our plan and agreed. SPUR’s latest policy brief contrasts the “15-minute neighborhood,” where essential services and amenities are a 15-minute walk or bike ride away from homes, with the low-density, single land use strategy that has governed nearly all residential development of modern cities since 1960. The policies of yesteryear created and perpetuated racially and economically segregated communities with inequitable access to critical public resources. The 15-minute neighborhood puts a premium on safe and easy access to resources, reducing pollution, and increasing livability, affordability, and equity. In a new brief, SPUR explores how the 15-minute model could help improve and accelerate San José’s approach to planning for more compact and connected urban development. EVIDENCE for OPTIMISM! yes this is certainly EVIDENCE! if your EYES ARE OPEN you have been seeing this concept being developed ! the future use and uses of Cleveland's' lake front has been debated often over many years;and now we see some results of the debating ! RESULTS that can only be seen AS EVIDENCE for OPTIMISM oh certainly there will be many pessimistic "experts" claiming this will never happen and they will do everything they can to dilute the optimism if only to prove themselves to be the "expert" pessimists they are! this leaves the door wide open for the OPTIMISTS to step in front of the "expert pessimists" to take the best of the opportunities that will follow the optimism! site selection committees are noticing Cleveland ! and the potential sites within this Master Plan will be absolutely world class phenomenal! nothing else anywhere in the world close to the amazing possibilities here and now! hold on to your hats! this entire region is poised for lift off! you can sit back and watch the show or jump in to take the opportunities! An issue that has been plaguing our housing stock/availability for years. I encourage all to look into this issue in hopes that a common-sense solution will be enacted allowing for a more robust, healthy housing/economic development ecosystem for all.

💸 The Strategic Growth Council voted today to approve $757,471,361 in Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities (AHSC) program awards to 21 projects across the State! This seventh round of AHSC funding will:  🔸 Create 2,552 new affordable homes  🔸 Buy 150 zero emission transit vehicles  🔸 Install over 50 miles of bikeways  🔸 Construct over 40,000 feet of new and repaired accessible walkways  🔸 Plant thousands of trees    Altogether, the 21 projects will prevent 807,404 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions, which amounts to taking 179,672 gas-powered cars off the road for one year. 🌎  Awardees include Los Angeles LOMOD Corporation, Eden Housing, Inc., BRIDGE Housing Corporation, UPholdings Hollywood Community Housing, Resources for Community Development, The Danco Group, Mercy Housing, MidPen Housing Corporation, The Pacific Companies, Wakeland Housing and Development Corporation, Meta Housing Corporation, Visionary Home Builders of CA, Inc., Linc Housing, and KASHIA BAND OF POMO INDIANS OF THE STEWARTS POINT RANCHERIA.
