HR Tips for Employee Terminations Over the next couple of weeks, I will be posting a series of common mistakes to avoid during employee terminations (both single and group terminations). First tip: Respect. You should always treat employees with respect, however, it is critical that you do so during a termination. There is a higher chance an employee will bring a lawsuit challenging a termination if the employee is shown any disrespect on the way out. Although every termination is different depending on the circumstances, it is usually a very emotional and upsetting time for an employee. Besides using a respectful tone when communicating the termination, it shows respect when you are prepared with all the information the employee may need. This information includes the next steps, what they need to do, who they need to contact, etc. You should ensure you have ample time to allow the employee to either ask questions or just listen. They may just need to vent. Many times employees just need to be heard. If they feel you heard them, they don't need to go find a lawyer who they feel will listen. #civility #hr #employmentlaw #respectfulterminations

Your employee shouldn’t be surprised by their termination. Treat others the way you want to be treated. Everyone has heard this a million times right? Yet why do we still do the wrong things? Employee terminations are a part of business. No matter what advances are being made, To either Talent Experience or Labor Laws, Employee Terminations will still happen. I have clients tell me they feel uneasy about their termination procedures. The reason they feel uneasy? ↳ They didn’t manage performance properly. I have said this before, your employees should not be surprised by: - A performance review - A coaching conversation with your boss - A termination notification with your boss and HR If you’re uneasy about your termination process, I can help. DM me “Uneasy” and I’ll reach out. Let’s all do better together. Please repost ♻️ if you agree.
