Geoff Blaber’s Post

This was terrific panel to be involved with at #MWC24. A great discussion with CODE members Opera and Meta along with Renate Nikolay from the European Commission. A lot of ground covered spanning the importance of openess in digital ecosystems, regulation and the role of CODE. A big thanks to all involved. We care deeply about establishing a level playing field for developers to foster innovation and free competition. That’s why we collaborated on open web standards in the past and why, together with Meta, Google, Qualcomm, and others, we have co-founded CODE - the Coalition for Open Digital Ecosystems. CODE met for the first time in person at MWC Barcelona where Opera VP Jan Standal joined a panel with Renate Nikolay, Deputy Director-General, DG CNECT, European Commission and Markus Reinisch, VP Public Policy Europe and Global Economic Policy at Meta moderated by Geoff Blaber, CEO, CCS Insight. The participants debated topics that are very important to Opera: the concept of “openness” and its crucial role for better products  and consumer choice - something we’ll be focusing on within the alliance in the near future as well.
