We're thrilled to see CapitalG's managing partner Laela Sturdy on Barron's list of the 100 Most Influential Women in Finance. A few of our favorite snipets: "Sturdy has invested in four so-called decacorns, or privately held start-ups valued at $10 billion or more. Early stakes in fintech Stripe, Duolingo, and software company UiPath cemented her reputation as a savvy investor in emerging technologies, but her promotion last year to managing partner of CapitalG, Alphabet’s $7 billion independent late-stage growth fund, makes her one of just a handful of women leading an established venture firm of this size solo. Almost two-thirds of U.S. capital-management firms still don’t have any female partners. Her specialty: making concentrated bets on what she sees as 'generational,' or long-lifespan companies with outstanding growth prospects and impact. As she vets new investments, Sturdy looks for joy. 'It matters that you love what you are doing, and that your teammates around the table—or on the court—have that same level of joy and commitment,' she says. 'She has the performance mind-set of the investment business but also a respect and kindness that isn’t associated with it,' says Gene Frantz, a CapitalG general partner. 'People are naturally drawn to her and want to be in her orbit.'" And of course, partner with organisations like Sie (we're not short on diverse deal-flow!). Diverse perspectives in finance can only lead to greater innovation, results, and impact. A big thank you to the Latimpacto team and our amazing moderator—Daniela Konietzko María Carolina Suarez Visbal María José Céspedes and Allie Hollowell—for an insightful 90-minute discussion on inclusive leadership and gender equity's role in reshaping finance in LatAm and globally.   Key takeaways:   1. Women—let's continue to empower ourselves. Let's invest in ways that are aligned with our values and the change we want to see in the world. You don't have to have millions in capital to do this. Start somewhere. Start now. Women comprise <20% of early stage investors. Let's change this.   2. Only 10% of our 40 attendees were men. We need more male allies in these discussions. When men are advocating for equity and truly part of the change, they are the most incredible allies.    3. As LPs, fund managers, entrepreneurs, and financial leaders, women are more risk aware—meaning they are more likely to factor in the cost of climate change and rising inequality in their portfolio. A study from BNP Paribas found that a majority of women high-net-worth entrepreneurs (51%) already include sustainable investments in their portfolio.   4. In some of the most unexpected industries including the automobile industry in LatAm, women entrepreneurs demonstrate the highest levels of grit, resiliency, performance, and ingenuity. We know that women-led businesses are also more resilient during economic instability, and exit faster at higher valuations for investors. Let's increase investments in these businesses globally. Key question for all of us: What are the consequences of not integrating sustainability and equity into investment strategies for future generations? Calling all founders & investors if you haven't heard of the #notwithmymoney campaign please read and sign 👇 The current state of the UK financial capital system fails to acknowledge and capitalise on the wealth of knowledge, experience, and talent within the female investor and entrepreneur community.    The statistics regarding gender equity in the UK are alarming and indicate a systemic issue that needs to be urgently addressed:   90% of VC money currently goes to all-male teams. (Dealroom) Women make up only 17.7% of those with significant ownership of venture capital firms, which in turn limits the flow of capital to female founded businesses. (Ada Ventures) Less than 2% of venture capital funding goes to all-female founder teams, with this percentage remaining stagnant for a decade. (British Business Bank) Up to £250 billion in new value could be added to the UK economy if women started and scaled new businesses at the same rate as men.(The Rose Review)  The lack of investment translates to a loss of $4.4 trillion in missed revenue for women and minority-owned business enterprises. (Morgan Stanley) Only 14% of the 36,800 angel investors in the UK are women. (UKBAA) Businesses founded or co-founded by women perform better over time, generating 10% more in cumulative revenue over five years. (BCG). Women-owned startups deliver twice as much per dollar as men. (BCG)   These figures reflect a dire situation where our economic growth potential is hindered by our failure to harness the significant economic contribution that women can make as investors and entrepreneurs. The UK ranks 19th in the world in gender equality, significantly trailing many of our European peers (Economist, 2024). Harnessing the economic prowess of women entrepreneurs and investors could inject up to £250 billion into the UK economy, representing a substantial growth opportunity that we cannot afford to overlook!
