Go Laela Sturdy! An industry great and a fantastic leader!
We're thrilled to see CapitalG's managing partner Laela Sturdy on Barron's list of the 100 Most Influential Women in Finance. A few of our favorite snipets: "Sturdy has invested in four so-called decacorns, or privately held start-ups valued at $10 billion or more. Early stakes in fintech Stripe, Duolingo, and software company UiPath cemented her reputation as a savvy investor in emerging technologies, but her promotion last year to managing partner of CapitalG, Alphabet’s $7 billion independent late-stage growth fund, makes her one of just a handful of women leading an established venture firm of this size solo. Almost two-thirds of U.S. capital-management firms still don’t have any female partners. Her specialty: making concentrated bets on what she sees as 'generational,' or long-lifespan companies with outstanding growth prospects and impact. As she vets new investments, Sturdy looks for joy. 'It matters that you love what you are doing, and that your teammates around the table—or on the court—have that same level of joy and commitment,' she says. 'She has the performance mind-set of the investment business but also a respect and kindness that isn’t associated with it,' says Gene Frantz, a CapitalG general partner. 'People are naturally drawn to her and want to be in her orbit.'"
