Oracle has unveiled its fiscal 2024 Q3 outcomes, surpassing analysts’ projections, with notable success attributed to the company's bolstering of its AI offerings to clientele. In the third quarter of the fiscal year, ending on February 29, Oracle disclosed a seven per cent year-over-year revenue surge, amounting to $13.28 billion, outperforming Wall Street's estimations. Safra Catz, Oracle's CEO, underscored the significant role played by Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) in propelling overall revenue growth. Oracle Slides Most Since 2002 on Slowing Cloud Sales Growth Ellison says booking for cloud business doubled from AI firms Total revenue gained 9% to $12.5 billion, meeting estimates Oracle Corp. plunged the most in 21 years after reporting a slowdown in the growth of its cloud business, raising questions about the software maker’s expansion efforts in a competitive market. Cloud revenue, a metric that is closely watched by investors, jumped 30% to $4.6 billion in the period ended Aug. 31. Of that, $1.5 billion came from renting computing power and storage over the internet and $3.1 billion from applications. That cloud growth rate was slower than the 54% jump in the previous quarter. #business #finance #financialservices

#OCI is only 2% of the #cloud market because that is all #Oracle cares to achieve as it prioritizes profit over top line revenue. Also: 1. Customers have an abiding mistrust of Oracle after decades of aggressive sales tactics and punitive license audits. 2. Legacy software support fees are disconnected from measurable value such that customers struggle to justify incremental investments in Oracle. 3. Oracle is not pursuing low-margin general compute services; rather, OCI is the latest iteration of specialized database management, e.g., #RAC in the cloud. 4. Oracle does not invest in its channel as #AWS and #Microsoft do so legions of salespeople at resellers are working against OCI. 5. The #Java racket is so annoying that most customers are worn out by Oracle. Yes, Oracle is investing, and its cloud is competitive and growing, just not at the expense of longer-standing priorities.
