Yesterday was Day 1 of the International Coalition of Girls' Schools conference in Baltimore. Over 600 educators and advocates for girls' schools across 12 countries are in attendance. We were so pleased that over 20 GDST colleagues were able to travel across the pond for this amazing three-day event and that we have been given the opportunity to impart our own insights and knowledge into girls' education, and the evolving educational landscape, from our expert speakers. Bring on Day 2! #Girlsschools #GirlsEducation #WhereGirlsLearnWithoutLimits #GirlsFutures #GDSTdifference #Education

We're proud to be a part of the ALL IN: The Adult Literacy and Learning Impact Network! Parent literacy levels have a TREMENDOUS impact on a child's reading development. Unfortunately, adult literacy is woefully underfunded despite approximately 48 million adults in the United States not being able to read above the third grade level. If parents are not able to access the resources they need to learn how to read, research shows that their children will likely also confront similar struggles. It's that simple and it's all connected. That's why NCFL takes a multigenerational approach to education. When parents and children learn together, the whole family succeeds. #literacy #adulteducation #adultliteracy

The Responsive Classroom Approach, developed by Northeast Foundation for Children (NEFC), aims to create nurturing school communities where social and academic learning are seamlessly integrated. The approach focuses on fostering students to be strong and ethical thinkers. Based on developmental and social learning theories, and years of classroom experience, seven key beliefs form the foundation of this approach. For more insights, refer to "The First Six Weeks of School" by Denton, Paula, and Roxann Kriete, published by Northeast Foundation for Children in 2000. #ResponsiveClassroom #Education #SocialLearning #AcademicDevelopment

Our journey of providing education to children in low-income communities began with just one answer, ' Mummy mí olówò latí ró mí ló sí school' meaning that my mother does not have money to send me to school. That answer inspired our founder to start teaching 74 children from underresourced communities in a classroom. Today, our vision has expanded to impact more than 60 children who have achieved 75% academic improvement within six months of enrollment. Even as we celebrate the International Day of Education, we ask that you commit to sending a child to school. Quality education empowers children to become agents of change in their communities and live a life of impact. Let's resolve to say YES to equal access to education. No amount is too small to make a difference. Every single amount or action taken can help us empower more children from underprivileged backgrounds and give them a better future. Your resources, time, and support matter. Happy International Day of Education💚 #talentmineschool #internationaldayofeducation2024 #sendachildtoschool #educationforall #learningforlastingpeace #linkedinconnections

I will be hosting a 2-part workshop based on my doctoral work at #MyFest24 titled "A Pedagogy of the Colonized Oppressor". The workshop will take place on August 8th and August 12th. This workshop engages with Critical Pedagogy, which is usually rooted (and rightfully so) in the lived experiences of the oppressed. In this two-day workshop, however, we will explore it from the point of view of the post-colonial oppressor student. By dissecting the paradox of rich-oppressor and oppressed-student / Global South citizen, we will attempt to challenge the binary and explore the nuances of these intersecting positionalities in our classrooms. This workshop will explore theoretical implications and practical tools that could inform practice in k-12 and higher education classrooms.
