Despite contributing much less than 1% of greenhouse gas emissions, Small Island Developing States are highly vulnerable to the impacts of #climatechange. These states need urgent access to financial support and capacity-building to adapt to #climate change. GCA's 2024 State and Trends in Adaptation Report will provide an overview of climate risks, adaptation action, and financing needs and gaps in Small Island Developing States. Is anyone aware of a global study (or detailed country analysis) that highlights the sharp increase in recurrent costs that adaptation investments at scale will trigger? And how developing countries are responding to this? After responding to the below from GCA, and recalling my own reflections in a particular instance, it made me wonder and curious to read a detailed discussion.

The disruptive and deadly impacts of the #ClimateCrisis have made it clear that the world must urgently cut greenhouse gas emissions and increase adaptation efforts to protect vulnerable populations. Neither is happening. UNEP's 2023 #AdaptationGap Report finds that climate adaptation is slowing on all fronts, with the current adaptation finance gap estimated to be US$194-366 billion per year. Discover more on what actions need to be taken to catch up to the rising climate impacts. https://lnkd.in/dhsBMUXZ

#AfricaClimateWeek | #ClimateChange impacts #Africa is one of the lowest contributors to #GHG emissions causing climate change, yet key sectors have already experienced widespread losses & damages attributable to human-induced climate change. Without rapid, deep and sustained mitigation and accelerated adaptation actions, losses and damages will continue to increase, including projected adverse impacts and will disproportionately affect the most vulnerable populations. #IPCC’s Synthesis Report ➡️ https://bit.ly/SRYRpt23
