The $1.7 million contract will provide smartphone + smart debit card CM for 700 patients with opioid or stimulant use disorders. The program is funded by an Opioid Settlement Commission grant, a resource now becoming available to communities nationwide. Since opioids are increasingly mixed with stimulants, funds are being used to address both epidemics. In fact, the death rate from stimulants overtook that for opioids back in 2022. Yet, there is no FDA-approved medication for Stimulant Use Disorder and the only standard of care — CM — is rarely available. DynamiCare’s unique CM Guides will directly assist patients with multiple, integrated, evidence-based approaches. These include: Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Community Reinforcement Approach (CRA), and measurement-based care. Thanks to additional recent policy breakthroughs, all of these patient activities are promptly reinforced with $1,100 per patient in relapse-protective cash-equivalent rewards. New White House Drug Crisis Funding Fails the Science Test — Washington, D.C. (May 3, 2024) The Biden Administration’s new State Opioid Response Grant is a LOT of money. Unfortunately, it undermines its own National Drug Control Strategy with a grossly ineffective funding limit on the Standard of Care for the U.S. stimulant crisis. The National Council for Mental Wellbeing calls out this incentive obstacle – which entirely neglects 60 years of NIH-funded research. 2021 – The Biden Administration’s YEAR ONE policy PRIORITIES: “Identify and address policy barriers related to contingency management interventions (motivational incentives) for stimulant use disorder.” 60 years of CM research consistently demonstrates that effective CM rewards are in the range of $100 to $200 per month, for six months. Rewards at these levels have proven clinically effective AND cost effective – already in the first year of treatment. In combination with the related, evidence-based, Community Reinforcement Approach (CRA), meta-analysis demonstrates the best long-term outcomes of any studied treatment. These substantial and compelling findings clearly prove that funds of at least $600 per patient over a 6- to 12-month period is the evidence-based definition of effective CM. BUT…$75 per year is essentially meaningless. It certainly is NOT CM. 1st-in-the-Nation Medicaid Contingency Management Outcomes: West Virginia Shows Success for Stimulant Use Disorder Crisis WV Medicaid had accepted the 50-year-long clinical & cost-effectiveness success of these motivational incentives. Instead, it wanted to test feasibility -- not in an NIH trial, but with a real-world smartphone app system, DynamiCareHealth.com. All 3 of WV's Medicaid managed care organizations (MCOs) participated equally. Results showed excellent pace of referral, acceptability, engagement, retention, utilization, & patient satisfaction. Download the White Paper here: https://lnkd.in/ds5H-WAF This pilot was the first Medicaid-based program in the nation to provide full coverage of the most effective, evidence-based, contingency management incentives level, amounting to $599 per patient in cash-equivalent rewards. WV Office of Drug Control Policy has reported to the state legislature in its 2022 semi-annual report that, “DynamiCare is an app that uses evidenced based practices to treat individuals with stimulant use disorder and includes contingency management protocols, substance use testing by instant oral swabs and breathalyzers, self-guided cognitive behavioral therapy lessons, and peer support services offered via telehealth.” In prior NIH-funded research, CM consistently has doubled rates of abstinence, including in real-world practice with the DynamiCare CM platform. CM is strongly clinically-effective and cost-effective, generating substantial return-on-investment in the first year of treatment.
