Well worth a full read but some key findings include: 📊 **82% of executives** assert that Generative AI will revolutionize content creation, making processes faster and more cost-efficient. 📈 **75%** identify AI as a pivotal tool for personalized content recommendations, which can significantly enhance viewer engagement and retention. 💡 **69%** emphasize AI’s potential to automate routine tasks, allowing creative teams to focus on innovation and high-value activities. 🌐 **58%** of respondents express concerns over data privacy and security, highlighting the necessity for robust AI governance frameworks. 👥 **64%** of executives advocating for AI literacy programs within their organizations. It’s clear that Generative AI will play a transformative role in the media and entertainment sectors. "YOUR 6-STEP PLAN FOR SUCCESS IN AN INCREASINGLY GENERATIVE AI MEDIA & ENTERTAINMENT WORLD" My latest newsletter lays out 6 things everyone in the industry (business and creatives) should do to turn AI perils into personal power. Here's an excerpt: OpenAI’s “Sora” text-to-cinematic quality video debut served as Hollywood’s wake-up call. It opened eyes in the industry to generative AI’s immense power that threatens jobs, just as any new technology does. But it also opens new creative possibilities, new jobs, and new business models. So how can we best prepare ourselves? One thing is certain. Passivity plays no positive role. It’s critical to move past fear to acceptance and action. So here’s your 6-step program ("cheat sheet") for success for this coming AI sea change (the full version of this is in my newsletter): Step 1: accept this AI reality Open your mind to what #Sora represents - our new transformational generative AI reality. New tech always disrupts established companies, norms and business models. If nothing else, the internet revolution taught us that. Step 2: learn about generative AI Now it’s time to take action. Educate yourself about generative AI, because it will significantly impact all aspects of your personal and professional life. The more you know about AI, the more control you will have over it and the better positioned you will be to evolve in these changing times. Generalists who demonstrate flexibility are far more likely to prosper than those who are complacent & narrowly focused. Step 3: use the AI tools, experiment with them Experiment with generative AI. You simply can’t understand the power of this new transformational #technology in a vacuum. Step 4: get out there, mingle & practice “active serendipity” Get out of your bubble. Mingle with others who drive this change, share valuable perspectives about it, or are at least equally curious about it. Inject yourself into the bloodstream of life to put yourself in a position for things to “happen” (because they do when you least expect it). This is what I call “active serendipity.” It's not just chance. You took action. Check out AI LA - host great events. Step 5: invest in relationships! Most importantly, invest in relationships! #Hollywood and the #entertainment industry have always been built on relationships first. Practice "active serendipity” but don’t forget about the power of direct outreach either. Ironically, the more technology overtakes our lives, the more human relationships matter. It's great to have my thoughts on AI in the entertainment industry featured in AI In Hollywood. 📢 "Tim Levy, with entertainment finance and media tech background, advocates for Hollywood to broaden its view of AI, focusing on enhancement rather than just content generation." 👉 There's an obsession with using AI to machine-generate content – and it's fostering a perception that AI is a replacement for human talent. 👉 This has led many in the entertainment industry to shy away from any association with AI and is hurting the uptake of other use cases, such as the enhancement of authentic human-made content. 👉 We need to start differentiating between using AI for enhancement and for pure content generation. If we don't, we won't realise the full potential of AI to generate value in the entertainment industry. YouTube is requiring all YouTubers 🎥 to label AI-generated content. But is it enough? On March 18th, YouTube announced on their blog that they're now requiring YouTube creators to self-label videos containing AI-generated or synthetic material. Creators must use the AI label "when realistic content—content that a viewer could easily mistake for a real person, place, scene, or event—is made with altered or synthetic media, including generative AI." On the other hand, the AI label isn't required for things like beauty filters, special effects (e.g., background blur), and content that is clearly unrealistic. This step by YouTube highlights how much AI is impacting their platform but also shows the difficulty in regulating and knowing if content is real or not. YouTube is relying on creators to disclose what's happening in their videos. When considering examples like the manipulated picture of Kate Middleton, I do believe we'll need better safeguards to protect against fakes, misinformation, and deceptive behavior. The speakers highlighted concerns regarding data collection without consent, loss of control over data, lack of explanation or recourse, financial damage, and displacement of human creators. They called for opt-in consent, control over the use of their works in training data, attribution and compensation, education and labeling of AI-generated content, transparency, enforceable legal protections, and third-party verification.
