We finish our first week of intern spotlights with Brandon Borghol, a Project Engineer Intern on a plant project in Sumterville, Florida. Brandon, a senior at the University of Central Florida, feels the exposure to the office and fieldwork is the most valuable experience he's had so far in his early career. "While I am mainly learning the Project Engineer role, I am still in the field nearly every day learning how to actually build things and build them safely. When my internship with Garney is over, I'm sure I will be amply prepared to succeed in any role I find myself in. As an engineer, you pride yourself on problem-solving and thinking outside the box to get projects done. Working with the Garney team has given me a rich experience in doing just that, motivating me to become a well-rounded, capable problem solver."

This is my 4th linked in post. I can't express how much i have learned from this internship so far. I know my goal is to become a construction manager and i am a laborer right now, but I love it. It has taught me almost the whole process of a jobsite and I now know what people are going through and expect from the manager. I now know how to manage guys and different crews on the same job working. I love this internship and could see myself doing it for a career. The article for this post is "What Is Construction Management?" and this gives you a good idea for what you can except from this job

Internship programs require a lot of investment. Not only financially, but also from just plain hard work. However, it’s moments like this that pay you back with INTRINSIC VALUE. And it is worth all the investment! For me, healthy organizations are aware of how important intrinsic value can be to their teams and make conscious decisions to provide those opportunities. Internship programs are a huge source of reward for me, as I love the mentor/mentee dynamic and how much I LEARN from the interns as well!! Click the Pic for our Article on this!
September 22 – the Fall Equinox – not only signifies the end of summer, but also the end of our 2023 Summer Internship Program! This year’s project engineer interns spent 10 weeks learning about the construction industry, the different facets of our business, and how to carry themselves professionally in the office and in the field. Additionally, they were tasked with completing a summer project, which entailed putting a bid together for a job that Total-Western was actively pursuing. Each week of the internship focused on teaching them the different components of a bid proposal and how to critically think and problem solve while working across multiple departments. They then presented their proposals to senior leaders, which included an estimate summary, proposal letter, schedule, and execution plan, who then picked the best proposal. Congratulations to Inesh Sharma and Tristin Diaz for presenting the winning bid! Before the program concluded, we asked all of the PE interns to reflect on what they learned over the past 10 weeks and identify their biggest takeaways. See what they had to say by clicking the link below. Our PE interns did a fantastic job applying theoretical knowledge to real-world projects and scenarios while faced with a steep learning curve. We could not be prouder of this bright group of individuals. Congratulations Geoffrey, Sean, Liam, Taylor, Inesh, and Tristin for completing our program! It was a joy to have you on board and we wish you the best of luck with your future endeavors! #TWinternshipprogram #totalwestern #summerinternship #projectengineer #engineering #construction #civilengineering #mechanicalengineering #industrial #professionaldevelopment #destinationemployer
