The M&S / Status Quo alliance has caused ripples of bemusement in adland. Undermining years of work building a premium brand, the perils of in-house agencies, another great brand loses its way etc... The backstory is more interesting. For adland to get seriously good again, I think it needs to think past its own instinctive reactions, get curious about what it might be missing, and loosen up about the way brands really work. Building an up-and-coming creative consultancy that serves leading brands like Coca-Cola and Chick-fil-A is the most fun I've had in my life. (Even more fun than getting Ronald Acuña Jr. to fly out to left field while I was pitching for the Cincinnati Reds. Video for proof. Let a naysayer know.) The biggest current challenge is answering the question, "What does ADDO do?", in a clear way. I often say start by saying, "Imagine if McKinsey and Ogilvy had a baby..." Just kidding, but that's not far off from what we're building. Instead I say, "ADDO is the Latin word for 'Inspire.' We inspire brand loyalty in customers and employees. And we believe it starts with building brands from the inside out." My entire life has been committed to the singular pursuit of an ambitious dream. ADDO's ambitious dream is even bigger than trying to play professional baseball. Building brand loyalty means positively influencing the beliefs and behaviors of every customer and employee for each brand we serve. The opportunity for society-wide impact is enormous. Definitely bigger than Ronald Acuńa Jr.'s swing.

We had an interesting discussion internally & you must read through it I consistently emphasize to my team the importance of immediate action once a campaign is closed. There should be no room for delays. Recently, we faced a situation where a brand took an extended time to respond on various matters, including links for descriptions and vetting the video. My team humorously approached me, questioning why we are aligning everything so swiftly while receiving delayed responses. I responded by highlighting that our objective is to showcase our proficiency as swift and flawless executors. We can't afford to deviate from this approach unless the situation is genuinely unfavorable. Always prioritize swift execution to maintain a strong presence with the brands you collaborate with; it leaves a lasting impression. Who do you think will win at #Cannes this year? I like the entry for Mercado Libre from @gutagency Sao Paulo because it connects a brand truth (fast delivery) to culture in a relevant way to build long-term brand equity, leveraging utility to make the game better for players, in-stadium fans and at-home viewers. In the creative industry, one of the biggest hurdles is often not having the final say in our work. Our ideas can be swayed by opinions from outside our department, which can blur our original vision. Sometimes I wonder, what if we had a “veto power” in creative teams? Imagine a system where department heads can consider everyone’s input, including ideas from other department heads, but ultimately have the authority to reject any ideas that stray from the project’s main goal.
