Been contemplating a lot lately. I really regret not leveraging my anthropology degree more in the past. I graduated into the 2008/9 recession and I had to do what I had to do to find work. But looking back, though I don’t regret my career decisions, I really hoped I could come full circle and pursue my passion in working with cultural groups, especially when it came to indigenous or minority rights. We’re living within a critical time for social and environmental rights and I deeply feel like I’m missing out on making a lasting impact on the world at large. The interconnectedness of the world is starting to reverberate more than ever and I believe that hope for our planet’s future lays within its indigenous inhabitants who help take care of the earth.
As for me, I live in a concrete city far removed from the natural splendor of the rainforests or mountains. But I want to look back one day and say, I somehow positively contributed to something larger than myself. I miss being out there. And though I don’t see myself by any means as a journalist, I want to use my creative talents in a way that can help in a socially impactful and meaningful way to help spread the message.
