A couple of US/UK based headhunting companies have contacted me proposing a freelance collaboration with top pharma companies and interviewed me through written interviews (one on Telegram, the other on Skype). Both these companies were really satisfied with the answers, giving a rating of satisfaction for the interview above 95%, and accepted the hourly rating I proposed at first glance. As a next step, both these companies have asked me to pay for software to be installed on my laptop to immediately start working. When I answered I'd have not paid until having started the job, one of them answered these are the SOPS and they have no power to change it, while the other one disappeared. I've not signed any of these contracts because it looks a "strange" approach to me (one of the golden rules for any Italian contract is "never pay before you receive money from any company you're working for"). Is this an acceptable way of business for the USA and the UK?
