💡 NEVER diagnose on the service lane! 🤔 Except sometimes it’s perfectly ok… With experience comes intuition. As a service advisor, you’re always told to never diagnose on the service lane. See a check engine light - Don’t say “yeah that’s going to be a vaper canaster for sure.” Hear a squealing noise - Don’t say “it’s definitely your brakes let’s start there.” Let your trained technicians make that call. It’s quite literally their job! But… what about a broken mirror? Or bald tires? Or worn out wiper blades? In these very obvious situations, we don’t need a technician to take a look and tell us what we can see plainly in the sevice lane. It’s perfectly appropriate to get a quote for a that mirror, and for those tires, and for those wiper blades without waiting for the technician to tell anyone to do so. But this takes intuition. If you are on the fence about doing this for a specific concern you see on the lane, play it safe! Just ask and then next time you’ll know for sure. ✅ Advising service is a performance! Despite official figures from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), our data, including responses from collision repair specialists, paints a different picture. With collision repair technicians reportedly earning a mean salary of approximately $87,000 per year, it's evident that more comprehensive data is needed. Recent findings from WrenchWay's survey challenge the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics' (BLS) data on automotive technician pay. While the BLS reports lower averages, our data, inclusive of responses from collision repair technicians, suggests significantly higher earnings. With a mean salary of around $87,000 per year for collision repair specialists, there's a clear disparity. We always end our conversations with customers with “if you get pulled, it’s our name that’s on that sheet. Cant you just…. No. I missed my inspection, can you back date it… No. I will sort it later, can you pass the sheet off… No. I need it for a job today… Tough! VOR. I WISH all our customers could of been present in our workshop last week. Just to watch the reality of the above. Randomly in walks DVLA, with OUR service sheets printed off, our name, Our Logo, all neat in a folder. Everyone freezes and stares… RB Fleet? … Yes 👀 Can I have a word about (Customer)… The short story, if it’s due.. get it done. If a qualified technician tells you it needs repairing.. get it done. They ARE watching and it will stop your business if you don’t just get it done! 1 pull is all you need to open a can of worms. Dont go above and beyond to please the customer if it means you could face consequences. You will go down with them if you allow bad practices. Luckily.. we always stuck to our guns and left service sheets VOR where required, by the book & we have no further action. It’s a visit il never ever forget. ✖️

There are three types of people in this world: 1. People who proactively take their cars in for oil changes, service, regular maintenance perhaps a bit ahead of schedule or right on time and are never prompted with a check engine light, a call or email about scheduling service. 2. People who react to check engine lights, calls or emails about scheduling service and take their cars in right away for service. 3. People who ignore check engine lights, calls and emails and other guidelines about scheduling service and who wait until the car literally breaks down before taking any action. The employer clients who I regularly work with generally fall into category no. 1 or 2 and the employers who get sued and contact me for "one off" representation are typically led by people in category no. 3. Let me know your thoughts and which category you fall under or if there is another category you would add to the list. Be honest. #employmentlaw #workplacelaw #TheWorkplaceLawfirm
