Sidewalks, parklets, streateries, and other outdoor public spaces are the building blocks of a community. They are places where storefront displays become public art, small dinners become grand events, and strangers become friends.
Despite their placemaking power, these spaces are underfunded and neglected in our communities. While it is important to put resources into real estate, housing, and other large assets, we also need sidewalks to connect them, streateries to draw in customers, and parklets to encourage us to slow down and enjoy our downtowns.
