🎉 Yayy! It didn't work. And the launch date is staring me in the eye 25 days ago, we decided to launch our Start-up on September 19, auspicious Ganesh Chaturthi. And we haven't finalized the plan yet. Product development is so exciting, in your own heads. Try doing it, lol, how did you miss this part? It didn't work as well We are trying to figure out if we can sell kneaded rice dough for people to make Ukadiche Modak. Crazy that it's been almost a decade since North Spore was founded. We learned a lot growing mushrooms in buckets, delivering them out of the back of an old Volvo to Portland, Maine area restaurants. We learned how to make do without many resources, building a scrappy business by growing and selling edible mushrooms, investing the revenue back in, and continuing to grow, experiment, and innovate. There were months and years where we barely scraped by, saved by a particularly bountiful wild mushroom crop one month and maybe a timely product launch the next. We learned that incentivizing restaurants to call out our mushrooms by name on their menus, giving them a $1 per pound discount when they did, would alert people to our existence. We learned how important building the North Spore brand was to our business. It's been wild to watch this space continue to expand, to see North Spore, over 70 of us strong now, continue to evolve, adapt, and learn. There's no doubt that mushrooms are hot right now. They're attracting folks with liquid capital looking for a quick buck and a trendy business to buy into, grow quickly, and sell. When they're all gone, we'll still be here, being mushroom guys. CIRCULAR SYSTEMS FOR EARTH DAY I've been for Team Revino ever since I met Adam Rack and Keenan O'Hern, MBA for the first time on a Teams call. These two (and their whole team) have a passionate vision to redefine sustainability in the wine industry. It is easily one of my favorite projects we've worked on at O-I. Returnable wine bottles break even on carbon emissions after the third reuse. Bottles from Revino average an -85% reduction in emissions compared to single-use bottles. Revino is setting the model to bring returnable systems back to the US, a much needed reminder on this Earth Day that reusable glass bottles are the friendliest packaging material for our planet. As Adam said in one of our first meetings, quoting the Dr. Seuss' The Lorax, "Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot. Nothing is going to get better. When Oregon-based startup Revino searched for the right manufacturer to produce reusable and returnable glass wine bottles for their winery partners, Revino says O-IPS was a clear choice.
