This is exactly what America needs. Law enforcement accountability has been a hot topic for at least the last decade. Opponents of law enforcement action need to clearly understand that cutting funding and lowering standards will make the situation worse 100% of the time. If a recruit can't make it through the grueling physical, psychological, and academic portions of a top-quality police academy, then how can they be expected to perform to the standards of public perception? Lawyers have months to prepare their case. Judges and juries have time to recess for discussion and clarity on the law. Videos are scrutinized frame by frame. Yet, the standard of training in a majority of law enforcement agencies nationwide is a high school diploma or GED, 21 years old, and an academically-focused police academy. Many academies have lowered physical fitness standards and removed psychological conditioning to accommodate more applicants who otherwise wouldn't make the cut. The Massachusetts State Police is one of the most premier law enforcement organizations in the US. I've slept in the barracks in New Braintree, eaten chow in the mess hall, and run in formation at dawn and dusk. State Police agencies across the country model this organization for a reason. They are the elite. One major lawsuit from a failure in training application can cost an organization tens of millions of dollars. The cost of increasing salary, benefits, and quality of life is far less expensive. Manage your agency's mindset. In the face of adversity, we should be raising standards and raising salaries together. Thanks for sharing, State Police Association of Massachusetts! 💪🇺🇸 Jeff Lurie, 38 Seconds Coaching #Mindset #Wellness #Retention
It's true, some people just are not cut out to be a member of the Massachusetts State Police. It is better to find out in the Academy rather than on the side of the road. The Association unequivocally endorses the uncompromising standards of the State Police Academy. It is only those who complete the process to join our ranks that then can claim the title of “Trooper.” Instead of lowering our standards, the Association has been fighting to increase wages, add educational incentives, and improve working conditions so we can actively compete and recruit the best candidates. At 11.59am PST today, police were called to Beam Hall at the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV). An active shooter was on campus. Minutes ago. Yes minutes. The news was broken by the Las Vegas police on X, formerly Twitter. “We are responding to preliminary reports of an #ActiveShooter on the campus of UNLV near BEAM Hall. There appears to be multiple victims at this time. Please avoid the area and we will have more information soon.” You read it right, only minutes ago, an active shooter was loose on the University campus. HOW DOES THIS KEEP HAPPENING? As a communicator who works at a university, this is the exact scenario that we hope will never, ever happen. I am amazed how fast UNLV responded. This saved lives. It's a fair bet the internal communications team, will likely never have experienced anything like this before. Yet almost immediately the comms team at UNLV warned its students, faculty, and staff that it was not a drill and that shots had been fired. “University Police responding to confirmed active shooter in BEH. This is not a test. RUN-HIDE-FIGHT.” In a crisis what we have learnt can often go ‘out of the window’. As humans our first response is often ‘flight’ rather than fight, but the communications team at UNLV did not. They kept their community safe by communicating. Next, they posted: “University Police responding to additional report of shots fired in the Student Union, evacuate the area, RUN-HIDE-FIGHT.” I applaud you UNLV. You may have just saved many lives. #UNLV #fightorflight #shooting #university #crisiscommunications #crisis #university #lasvegas #lasvegascommunity

School’s out for the summer, and many college students are hoping to earn money. That makes them a prime target for job scams, warns the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Scammers post ads for virtual jobs that may appear to be posted by the student’s college or a local business. That generally means applying online and providing information such as their Social Security numbers, birthdates and bank account numbers, which can be used to steal their assets and identities. Here are FTC tips to help spot and avoid these scams: https://bit.ly/3xF1hXb
