I’m re-reading Will Guidara Unreasonable Hospitality and soaking up his expert insight for the second time. As he calls out many times in his book, any industry can benefit from the concept excellent hospitality. In speaking about Danny Meyer's success, this caught my attention on my second read:
“Danny’s big idea was to hire great people, treat them well, and invest deeply into their personal and professional growth, and they would take great care of the customers – which is exactly what they did.” (pg. 24)
When employees are recognized and rewarded for their hard work and dedication, they feel validated. This affirmation of their efforts boosts their self-esteem and motivates them to maintain, if not enhance, their performance levels. Who benefits from this newly energized sense of purpose in addition to the recognized employee?: Their employer, their teammates, their family/friends, AND your clients!
The importance of rewarding employees cannot be overstated, as it cultivates a sense of value, acknowledgement, and loyalty that can propel both individual performers and organizations toward success.
