Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom’s Post

“It takes courage to stand up for human rights. But even the courageous need help.” 🎤 With these words, the German Federal Minister of Justice, Dr. Marco Buschmann, inaugurated the Friedrich-Naumann-Foundation for Freedom Human Rights Hub in Geneva on 10th July at the United Nations yesterday. 👥 Human rights defenders, lawyers, judges, ambassadors, and members of civil society came together for the opening event at the Palais des Nations.   ⚖️ Anne Brasseur, former President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and member of the Board of the Friedrich-Naumann-Foundation for Freedom, Dr. Katharina Stasch, German Ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva, Stefan Waespi and Fadzayi Mahere discussed the importance of standing up for the rule of law, freedom and justice in a world of shrinking spaces. 🤝 The Human Rights Hub of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom in Geneva will support human rights defenders in finding help, winning over fellow campaigners and generating attention. #humanrights #HumanRightsDefenders #freedom Michaela Lissowsky Rene Klaff Anne Brasseur Matthias von Bismarck-Osten Marina El Khoury Jules Maaten FNF Europe

Striking setting in the Palais des Nations, clear, forceful statements from the Minister and others, presence of courageous people bearing witness to the oppressive human rights situation in many countries around the world.   Moving and engaging! I am delighted to be able to accompany the Hub as a board member.

Unfortunately, Germany still allows dictatorships like the Iranian regime to orchestrate sham elections in various German cities to favor a religious dictatorship. They also use this kind of vote for propaganda inside the country. That's one of the aspects German lawyers need to focus on if they want to "help" brave human rights activists and support democracy in other countries!
