A survey is essentially a snapshot of a property. Isolated to itself it only can show the conditions on the site at that specific time; but taken together with other surveys, including as-built records, aerial imagery, and subdivision plats, those surveys can tell the story of neighborhood growth and decline, of industry prosperity and downfall, and of changing cities. Recently the Denver Public Library (DPL) released their historic surveys/maps project dubbed the “Time Traveler’s Map of Denver” providing side-by-side and overlay images of Denver from 1878 to 2022 Google maps. The historic surveys/maps are geo-referenced and allow the viewer to see just how much the city has changed over nearly 150 years. #survey #history #cartogeek #DPL #CCD https://lnkd.in/gUwQEETA

📗 To add to everyone's reading list 👇 Just got a copy myself :) A guide to a greener, brighter future. Nadina Galle hopes to "spark conversations about the declining health of our communities and how reconnecting with nature can provide solutions" A much needed discussion for all those organizations like Terrapreta and TreesAI that are developing tools and actions to revalue nature as urban infrastructure! #UrbanNature #GreenCities #NatureInCities #UrbanBiodiversity #EcoUrbanism #GreenInfrastructure #NatureBasedSolutions #CityGreening #SustainableCities #UrbanEcology #GreenSpaces #ResilientCities #NaturalCapital #UrbanForestry #BiodiverseCities #GreenRoofs #UrbanFarming #BlueGreenInfrastructure #BiophilicCities #ClimateResilience

It is exactly six weeks before THE NATURE OF OUR CITIES hits bookstores, and I'm riding a rollercoaster of emotions. While I initially thought securing the book deal and writing it would be the toughest challenges, the reality is that marketing and publicity have been relentless. There's always more you could be doing: more podcasts, more interviews, more outreach. This reality forced me to zero in on the true goal behind the book: sparking conversations about the declining health of our communities and how reconnecting with nature can provide solutions. Imagine a world where property developers opt to nurture ecosystems instead of bulldozing them, where urban foresters wield persuasive arguments to sway city councils towards nature-based interventions, where community groups unite to map biodiversity and safeguard habitats. That is why I'm organizing a book club for anyone who pre-orders a copy of THE NATURE OF OUR CITIES before June 18th, so we can delve into these vital conversations together. You'll receive a companion reading guide, a webinar to discuss the book with me, and exclusive access to a private LinkedIn group to keep the dialogue flowing. So, if you're keen and able, please pre-order your copy and join us! #thenatureofourcities #internetofnature #bookrelease #booklaunch #bookbuzz #urbanforestry #urbanecology #smartcities

Chief Population Health Officer and Executive Director of Behavioral Health @ Vail Health | MBA, MPH, MSPH, NASM-CPT Lifestyle Athlete working to extend my Healthspan/Longevity
Christine Whelan, a happiness expert and a professor of consumer science, who shares some strategies to reduce stress and increase joy during the holiday shopping season. • Happiness can be bought if you spend your money on time, experiences, and causes that align with your values. • Spending on things that are not important to you or that put you in debt can lower your well-being and satisfaction. • Values are the guiding principles that help you make decisions and prioritize your resources, such as time, talent, and treasure. 💡One idea to help you spend in keeping with your values is to create a holiday manifesto, a statement of your intentions and goals for the season. You can use a worksheet available on christinewhelan.com to fill out your own manifesto and share it with your family and friends.
Purpose Professor @Emory University, keynote speaker, author, thought leader on behavior change, mom of five.
Consuming Happiness Holiday Shopping Tip #5: It's not going to be perfect. If you're lucky, you can laugh together. And yes, your presence is present enough. I know, I know, easier said than done. So I made a #ConsumingHappiness manifesto to help. Thanks to Charlotte Deleste, Susan Siman and Steve Koehn for welcoming me on to WISC-TV's Live at Four today to put holiday shopping into perspective. My University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Human Ecology, University of Wisconsin-Madison class completed these earlier this week. Mine includes a commitment to focus on being present, being reflective and embracing my perfectly imperfect family chaos. What's yours?
