✨ Breaking Barriers in Mental Health Access for People with Disabilities At Council for Relationships, we recognize the significant challenges individuals with disabilities face when seeking mental health care. Whether navigating communication barriers in virtual sessions or grappling with transportation issues for those with mobility-related disabilities, the hurdles are real. We must address these challenges head-on, fostering an inclusive environment where everyone can access the mental health support they need. Acknowledging and working to eliminate these barriers pave the way for a more equitable and accessible mental health landscape. Join us in the journey towards inclusivity. Together, we can make strides in breaking down barriers and ensuring that quality mental health care is accessible to all. 💜🌟 #IDPWD #internationaldayofpersonswithdisabilities #ThrivingRelationships #FlourishingCommunities #mentalhealthmatters #DisabilityAwareness

With this being Mental Health Awareness Month, we highlighted spreading the message regarding those that we serve that are dual diagnosed.. It's important for the public to be made aware that our population can, at times, be looked upon as "already being served," or "they have IDD, this is what they are suffering from." Please note, there is no such thing as "suffering from" when someone has a diagnosis of IDD (Intelletual and Developmental disabilities). Those with IDD are born with this disability. There is no particular medical treatment, however, there is additional services that can be rendered to ENHANCE their lives. On the other hand, those dual diagnosed are suffering with a Mental illness, and need further treatment for that (or those) additional diagnosis. Due to this we will continue to strive for public awareness! #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth #FamilyofFaithSeviceProviders #SpreadingTheMessage #BringingAwareness https://lnkd.in/gdQKCHTr

Numerous studies have shown that disabled people are more susceptible to mental health concerns than non-disabled people. When we begin to look into the 'why' of it, we discover how much of it has to do with disabled people being denied basic human rights. It's funny how a single assembly of words can mean so many different things to different people. When I looked up the theme for this year's Mental Health Day, what really jumped out to me was the phrase 'human rights' closely following 'mental health'. When want to talk about how mental health is a universal human right, the scope of our conversation must extend beyond counselling and self care, to include the basic tenets of sound mental health, like, building an accessible and inclusive society. Shivangi Anil and I are going to have a conversation tomorrow about the mental health, disability, how disabled people can take care of their mental health, and more. An individual with a mental health diagnosis is not only one with a disability, they are some one with a #neurodivergence. I would like to further the discussion around accommodations in the workplace by offering these thoughts: - who has and who was conceptualized as having a non-divergent mind when diagnostic tools such as the DSM and standardized testing tools such as the SAT were being developed? - fostering diversity including that of neurotypes is a data-metric proven strategy of enhancing productivity and improving creativity in business. - access and accomodation are often left out of conversations around R/DEI. This only further stigmatizes workers who could be contributing if given the right opportunities. #mentalhealth #neurodivergence #pathology #diagnostics #testing #neurodiversity #businessstrategy #datadrivendecisions #access #accommodations #fightthestigma #opportunity #dei #rei #furtherconversation

It's Mental Health Awareness week. As an advocate I meet clients often frustrated, angry, undervalued, sad and unheard, season, in their life. These feelings can lead to feelings of being overwhelmed. One of the most common causes of frustration is filling out forms. The clients will procrastinate over completing them until the last minute and suddenly the client appears crisis. They have consulted a few friends, the form remains uncompleted. This is where Tiger's Eye Advocacy Service can step in. Form filling can be daunting. The following are some of the paperwork I have completed. 🖊️ Personal Independent Payment (PIP) 🖊️Educational Health Care and Needs assessment (EHCNA) 🖊️Positional statement for court 🖊️Blue badge 🖊️My Support Plans (MSP) for both children and adults. 🖊️ Complaints to PALS regarding medical services. 🖊️ Divorce Petitions I always pay regard to the legislation attributed to getting the best outcome for clients. 💡 Mental Health Act 💡Special Education Needs and Disability Act 💡Care Act 💡Human Rights Act 💡 Equality and Diversity Act
