🔬✨ In this week's #TechTales post, we highlight our MOF-based nano-shuttle technology and its role in efficient drug delivery. Drug delivery involves several complex steps to ensure the therapeutic agent reaches its target effectively. Our drug-loaded #NanoShuttles first target and bind to specific cell types. Once the delivery system is bound to the cell surface, the cell internalises it through a process called endocytosis. The delivery system then needs to escape the endosome to release the drug into the cytoplasm. Slow drug release is another essential aspect of our technology. By controlling the release of the drug, we avoid the burst effect, which can lead to rapid, uncontrolled drug release, causing side effects and reduced efficacy. Controlled release ensures steady therapeutic levels over time, enhancing treatment effectiveness and patient outcomes. We are thrilled to announce that we have been awarded a grant by Innovate UK via the Future Economy Investor Partnerships SME program. The objective of the grant is to scale-up manufacturing capability for allogeneic cell therapies. There is a huge pipeline of therapies predicted to enter the market in the next decade but the industry is lacking the vital tools and technologies to meet forecast demand. As experts in continuous processing of adherent cells, this grant will permit the development of a scalable, cost effective, and reproducible method of expanding hiPSCs for use in therapy development and manufacturing.
