The Child Well-Being index can be a great tool for nonprofits in the greater Atlanta area who are in a strategic planning process and are seeking to be intentional with their impact. If you have worked with the index before, this updated version has added information surrounding food and internet access. The areas measured have also decreased in size (we are now using census tracts) as we know that in Atlanta, needs can vary from one street to the next.
Combining 16 community indicators, United Way of Greater Atlanta's Child Well-Being Index helps prioritize programs and funding where it's needed most.

Relationships built around trust are a key part of serving children and families. Without strong relationships established, they may leave feeling unwelcomed or that their needs were not met, and they may not return for another visit. Organizations can build trust with families and communities by creating spaces for feedback as we work to update or create new policies and practices that directly affect them. https://buff.ly/4bgM4JV

Senior Director of Health Equity, Research, and Policy Development — Plymouth Housing, King County, WA
Thank you National Health Care for the Homeless Council for highlighting the accountability we as leaders, and our organizations as a whole, have when it comes to creating the structures, policies, communication pathways, and organizational cultures that allow “self-care” to occur. Self-care without resources - including time - isn’t possible. Self-care without leadership and org policies protecting your right to engage in what sustains you isn’t safe. Focusing on self-care while evading our responsibility to make that accessible, safe, and available to everyone doing the work not only isn’t helpful, it’s harmful. Research on what drives burnout leaves no doubt that this gaslighting of staff results in burnout and attrition as those who love the work are forced to leave orgs that fail them. How about we collectively agree that organizations must provide staff with information on elements of the work environment ensuring staff’s right to self-care doesn’t risk current harm to them, nor to their professional trajectory? Orgs that fail to do so will be fined a ‘gaslighting penalty,’ which will create a resource pool used by staff in orgs that fail them, ensuring staff members get that self-care they deserve. Can someone make that into a WAC or something?
Clinicians serving people experiencing homelessness are very aware of the role self-care plays in one’s well-being and ability to care for others. We also know that self-care cannot only focus on the individual — it requires the support of teams, organizations, and communities. What can we learn from one other to foster renewal and restoration in our work and our lives? Join us April 24 at 11 a.m. CDT for an interactive Community Conversation where we'll explore individual and organizational strategies that support well-being. Community Conversations are not webinars; they are discussions on issues affecting providers of all types who serve people who are unhoused. Register to join us here: https://lnkd.in/gPbvy6Yf

"Effective community intervention programs have become instrumental in addressing the root causes of delinquency. These initiatives encompass a broad spectrum of strategies, including early intervention, educational support, mentoring, and conflict resolution. At the Foyer Foundation, we believe in the transformative power of integrated, holistic support for young people. One of our incredible Youth Ambassadors, Kim, emphasized this when she told us, "Foyer Oxford helped me develop the life skills I didn’t have before, like how to maintain a tenancy, how to pass rental inspection checks or how to budget." Our Under One Roof Report highlights the staggering statistic that 34% of young people who reach out to specialist homelessness services each year request assistance with life skills. Homelessness denies young people of a lifetime of opportunities, hindering education and employment despite their clear desire to engage. Early intervention is a crucial step in breaking the cycle of disadvantage. By equipping young people with essential life skills, we back them to lead independent and fulfilling lives. Find out more about the Foyer Foundation's mission to improve access to integrated and stable support for young people, with a target of 50 Foyers by 2030, by reading our Under One Roof Report here: https://ow.ly/8p1a50PHErg

32 years of criminal and juvenile justice executive leadership at the city, county, state and within a large non-profit agency level leading system wide juvenile justice reform and improving conditions of confinement.
Doing it right
In August of 2023, The Bridge Youth & Family Resource Center officially opened their doors and welcomed the Ada County, Idaho community. Their role as resource center has played a large part in keeping kids out of the formal justice system resulting in a spike in referrals (as well as calls and drop-in visits from families looking for help). Here at the NAC, we support their journey as they work hard to make a difference in their community! Visit their website for more information today. https://lnkd.in/e9AayseV
