It was a big day at the Foundation last week as we celebrated the memory of Dr. Ophelia Garmon-Brown with the unveiling of the Garmon-Brown Board Room, located on the ground floor of the Foundation’s headquarters at 220 North Tryon Street. The room was made possible thanks to a gift from the Novant Health Foundation. The new room honors the legacy of Dr. Garmon-Brown, a trailblazing physician, hospital executive and impassioned advocate who dedicated her life to improving the well-being of others. A dear friend of FFTC, she passed away in 2021. (Read more about her life and impact: http://ow.ly/TWCO50NRXfM) Beginning this summer, the Garmon-Brown Board Room will be available for local and regional nonprofits to use free of charge during weekday business hours, like other Foundation meeting rooms. For-profit businesses and others may also rent the space for meetings beginning this summer. 1yMy family knew Dr Ophelia G-B on a personal level rather than her professional self. She was one of the most personable and caring people it has been my pleasure to know. She literally lit up a room with her smile and welcoming personality. Her passing was a great loss for our community. My heart reaches out to her family. Kudos to FFTC for this recognition of her gift of herself to our community.
