🐟 We all know what catfishing is: That dating trend where you pretend to be someone you're not. And, if you're lucky (read: Nev Schulman), investigating catfish cases could become your entire brand. But what if your catfish isn't in the dating world, but in the workplace? More and more, employers are "catfishing" job applicants - beefing up descriptions, omitting red flags and just straight-up misleading candidates about company culture, values and responsibilities. Over one-fifth of talent have worked jobs that did not match what was described during the hiring process, and 42% said they’ve accepted jobs that had more responsibilities than were they were told, according to new research from Greenhouse Software. I wrote about it for HRMorning here: https://lnkd.in/eaYUW4w8

Amplifying! Inaugural Office of Equity at East Bay Regional Park District! $111,092.80 - $141,689.60 Annually (edited to change from first person) "They are essentially looking for someone whose love languages are analytical skills (for research, policy, programs, etc) coupled with program management, and culture change, and who is a DOER as they get this office going from the ground level. Can you take a direction and return with solutionary ideas and research we can present to an executive team? Can you chew on a problem and ideate workable options for an agency setting? Can you hold a multifaceted approach to equity work? Can you work independently but not in an isolated way? Seriously though, while the position would report to José González, he's looking for a partner who is a complement to my way of being, knowing, and doing."

What things do great janitorial and cleaning companies do? 1. They have a solid plan of how to meet the scope of work for each account. 2. They have a communication plan with the customer. 3. They respond to complaints, put a plan together to correct, and (this is important) they follow up to make sure the problem has been resolved. 4. They take time to find the right people and they train them properly. 5. They have a quality assurance plan and are transparent on their findings. Good, bad or ugly. Honesty goes a long way. 6. This is the tough part, they don't argue with the customer, unless it is outside of the scope of work. Employers are increasingly aware that whatever they can see in a search on a potential new employee can also be seen by the wider world, and could pose reputational risk to their organisation. Conducting online searches against applicants, specifically of their social media profiles, could be a good way to mitigate the risks of hiring the wrong person. However, this comes with its own set of risks for employers, including claims of discrimination and data protection concerns. In this week's blog, Owen O'Rorke and Sophia Coles look at the legal risks connected with online searches and give tips to help mitigate them. Spreading misinformation is more dangerous than those who create it. Please verify what you repost and verify the data and if you were not there in person collecting the data and hearing it direct from the horses mouth or directly involved. Please be careful of what you post. I work hard at attending events to learn direct from the real people the truth I have seen how some paid for media will cut and paste things out of context for their advertisers. I spend a lot of time digging for the truth and I surround myself with people who do the same and who work hard to find the solutions. People Who walk their talk and take the answers to the government and too often our broken food chain system to improve things for all of us. Posting misleading and fake information slows the honest hard workers down. The end result is you will be eating from the lies you spread, we already are now.

If you're currently on the job hunt, consider these six strategies to guide you through the process. Remember, adapt these strategies to suit your unique situation: 1. Research roles and skills related to your career goals thoroughly. 2. Focus on specific roles that match your career goals. 3. Customize your resume to cater to a broader industry or roles with similar responsibilities. 4. Utilize the company's official application process on their website. 5. Approach the job search proactively rather than reactively. 6. Identify and connect with recruiters or hiring managers on LinkedIn, crafting personalized messages to make a memorable impression. Remember, these strategies are not one-size-fits-all. Use them as a template, adjusting to your needs and evolving your approach. Keep in mind that there are multiple paths to success in the job search process. An inside tip for applying for a job with many government agencies, including my own at County of Orange. Recruiting for an organization that is 18,000 employees strong like the County is a tough task and our HR Department does a great job at it. Yet putting together a job description, getting it posted and summarily doing the recruitment takes a good bit of time and energy for both HR and the department that’s in need of a great colleague. As such, many departments can come together - either before or after the recruitment - and want to utilize the “list” that was created for it. A list are folks who have interviewed and get rated according to qualifications and can summarily be called up to interview for another position. Example of how it worked for me. I applied for one position in the County and didn’t get the job but I made it to the “A list.” I had two other departments at the County who contacted me shortly after and wanted to interview me for a similar position. I interviewed with one and summarily got the job. So this means that while you might be applying for a job for one position, there might be another hidden opportunity and position open in another department that is available as well. My advice? Apply for positions at the County and work your way on to several lists if possible. Best of luck and I’m here for questions. Oh, and apply to join my team as our Creative Manager. My lists for other positions have gotten used in the past and I wouldn’t be surprised if this one would get used as well.
