Another article on the recent Florida court decision on the #ADA on the eve of its 33rd anniversary on #Children with #Disabilities being improperly #Institutionalized and possible implications of this decision being much broader. We've had the #Olmstead decision since 1999 so this ruling shouldn't be a huge surprise--we should be surprised this is happening. But looking big picture, we can see the significant gaps outlined in the article as far as #Home and #Community based care which are severe. Wishing a Happy Father’s Day to all the dads, grandfathers, father figures, and male caregivers! Your hard work and commitment to equitable, nurturing, non-violent caregiving does not go unnoticed. While we celebrate dads today, we also must acknowledge that there must be change at the policy level to support male caregivers, fathers, and the next generation of dads. We know that dads want to step up and do more care, but policies haven’t caught up and structural barriers prevent their full ability to do care work. In the US, 88% of dads across party lines and income levels want investments in childcare infrastructure. We’re in this fight for the long haul, and we’re committed to making it happen. This is disturbing on many levels. The U.S. Supreme Court's #Olmstead ruling back in 1999 was to prevent such situations but here we are in 2024 witnessing this--the person with a #Disability being sued by the #Hospital. I guess this begs the question whether #Litigation is needed to further clarify #CommunityLiving to ensure someone can live in their own #Community--or even their own #State--rather than being offered only to be shipped to another state! If we truly believe and #Legally recognize people with #Disabilities have the #Right to live in the #Community whenever possible, shouldn't that #Community have to be the person's own community? #DisabilityRights #CivilRights #Medicaid https://lnkd.in/gf6reyDt

We'll never agree on everything, but it's encouraging to see that there are some things that we should all be able to get behind to support American families. - Maternal health and safety in maternity care - Helping parents afford babies, including increased expenses like food, diapers, cribs, strollers, car seats - Supporting families' child care needs, including after-school care The proposed solutions aren't totally the way I would implement these supports, but SOMETHING has to change, and soon. https://lnkd.in/gGxVducM
