Slow and Steady growth I was recently vending at a local art event and had the pleasure of sampling Perfectly Cordial to an executive of Red Bull. I asked him for his best advice when it comes to growing a beverage company. He responded with Community and Slow and Steady growth. It warmed my heart and confirmed that I am on the right track. As a founder it’s easy to get caught up in the social media hype or the conference mania and think that you have to move fast, grow fast, do everything fast. Word of mouth is the number one mover for Perfectly Cordial. We have doubled down on Community by opening OneShop. Supporting over 100 small makers and founders throughout the year. We have changed our recipe to focus on sustainability but retaining our flavor. We have launched the Cordial Cart to bring inclusive drinking to large events and gatherings. To other founders: There is nothing wrong with small wins……….slow growth………and being a profitable business . #smallbusiness #femalefounder #blackownedbusiness #femalefounder #responsiblescaling

The TV show “Shark Tank” has been a platform for entrepreneurs to pitch their business ideas to a panel of investors (sharks) in the hopes of securing funding and mentorship. The show has helped many businesses get off the ground and become successful, including Scrub Daddy, Bombas, and Squatty Potty That being said, there are some benefits to having an internal “Shark Tank” competition within a company. Why should just 5 sharks on TV reap all benefits' example, NakedWines.com implemented an internal “Shark Tank” competition in the office, which boosted company morale and brought more impressive, out-of-the-box ideas to the table than any traditional marketing strategy they had. The competition allowed every single employee to pitch an idea that had the potential to improve the business. The winning pitchers were paired with mentors who helped them build a business plan and carry out their vision. In general, get rid of the company gatekeepers and have a platform to pitch ideas that can be beneficial for companies. It can help foster creativity, innovation, and collaboration. It can also help identify new opportunities for growth and improvement within the company. However, it’s important to note that implementing such a platform requires careful planning and execution to ensure its success.

Sharing the love, one brand at a time 🥰 Being a founder in the F&B space, we come across so many great brands and founders on a day-to-day basis - from our network, attending events (like the recent Xmas parties organised by Colin Mordi and Bread & Jam team), visiting or exhibiting at trade shows, via LinkedIn and through general word of mouth. On LinkedIn, it feels like the Pareto principle is in play - 80% of my feed is dominated by 20% of the awesome brands out there. There are several reasons for this: 1. These brands are doing amazing things (e.g. landing large accounts, big partnership deals, etc.) 2. Some founders are fantastic at using LinkedIn effectively to communicate wins / losses / stories / lessons, which are then piggybacked on by others, creating a compounding effect 3. A lot of smaller brands / founders just don't have the capacity to use LinkedIn to its full potential So here's my effort to diversify LinkedIn by promoting a brand that I don't see mentioned enough (I'm hoping the founder doesn't mind!), and 3 short reasons why I think they're great. First up, Chili Maven by Alexa Fernandez 1. A founder with authenticity - Alexa is of Mexican heritage, so knows what real Mexican food is. The products are also made in Mexico 2. Great product - eye-catching brand and the salsa macha can be used on literally anything and make it better 3. Innovative - nothing else like it on the market (that I've seen) Have you heard of Chili Maven? What do you think of it?

Ladies, Merrilee Kick is inspirational AF. Read this: 'In 2009, as a 46-year-old teacher of business in Plano, Kick was sitting by her pool grading papers when she had the idea for what became BuzzBallz: fun, high-proof cocktails served in easy-to-hold, colorful, plastic spherical containers. “I thought, I shouldn't have this glass container out here,” she recalls. “I should have a plastic, pool-safe type of cocktail.” The project excited Kick, who had been working towards her MBA at Texas Woman’s University and wanted to gain more financial independence as she and her husband considered divorcing. She had no savings and nothing to fall back on. ... In 14 years since she founded the brand, Kick has built BuzzBallz into an alcohol industry powerhouse. In addition to distribution across the United States, the brand is now sold in 29 countries with annual revenue that Forbes estimates is roughly $500 million. The 61-year-old Kick, in turn, has become one of the alcohol industry’s biggest success stories, with one of best exits ever for a woman. The former public school teacher from Plano, Texas, never sold a stake in the company, but did give 24.5% to each of her two sons, Alex and Andrew, now president and vice president of BuzzBallz. The Louisiana-based spirits conglomerate Sazerac, owned by billionaire William Goldring, acquired BuzzBallz in May in an all-cash deal that Forbes estimates is at least $500 million. Neither Kick nor Sazerac would comment on the size of the deal, but, without providing documentation, Kick says that the actual figure is much higher. Forbes conservatively estimates that, after taxes, Kick pocketed at least $400 million.' Forbes Chloe Sorvino https://lnkd.in/ex3VTEQJ #FundFemaleFounders

A strategic marketing advisor - working with food and drink brands to get big brand thinking into their marketing | NED | Ex Heineken / Arla Foods / Weetabix.
What an event Bread & Jam was to exhibit at last week. My back and feet have only just stopped aching An inspirational 2 days, full of enthusiasm, positivity and sense of community. It was great to catch up with some existing clients like Spoon Cereals, meet a stack of great founders and to see and taste some delish NPD. Our process usually starts with a free 30 min consultation with the team. We enjoy those chats - we can learn about a business and understand the ambition and challenges you're facing. Bread & Jam allowed us to have dozens of those conversations in two days. And chatting to all those early stage founders gave us a couple of ideas about how we will be able to better help them (more of that to come in the coming weeks). ====== 🙋♂️ I’m Gareth, and I help food and drink brands get their marketing pointed in the right direction. 🗞️ If you like this post, then subscribe to my (roughly) monthly blog that goes to 2,500 other marketers. In it we share our thoughts on how to grow brands. Link in my header. 🔔 It’d be great to connect or if that’s a bridge too far a follow would be lovely too.
