Did you know? Food insecurity costs Georgia billions of dollars every year. How? Each food-insecure person incurs $1,863 more in medical expenditures every year. The total cost just in the state of Georgia? $1.78 billion – due to more chronic disease treatment, more diabetes hospitalizations and more hospital readmissions. 👉 Not to mention, not having regular access to healthy food takes a mental and emotional toll on a person, and their loved ones, every single day. This is just one way that YOUR giving to LettumEat! goes far beyond warm, delicious meals – although it provides that, too. Food is good for the heart, soul and body, and when you give Lettum Eat!, you're investing in our collective future. Our second MPK is underway now, and we need support to keep this project moving forward. Give NOW at lettumeat.com/donate!

Did you know nearly 7,000 children in Orange County, North Carolina are on free and reduced meals? That's 1 in 3 kids who can be considered food insecure. TABLE was founded in 2008 to help alleviate food insecurity among children living in Orange County by providing local kids with healthy, fresh food and nutrition education. We started serving 12 kids at one elementary school and have grown our programs to deliver food directly to the homes of 950 kids every week. Since 2008, TABLE has distributed over 2,880,000 healthy meals and snacks to local children. Through our food access and nutrition education programs, our goals are to improve children’s overall health; increase children’s knowledge of nutrition, positive attitudes toward healthy eating, and/or long-term healthy eating habits; ensure kids and families are engaged, involved, and feel dignified; and ensure kids have access to and eat sufficient nutritious food. Over the last year, TABLE has achieved some remarkable milestones including completing our Capital Campaign raising $3.25 million to purchase and renovate our new building, raising over $300k at our annual Empty Bowl Fundraiser - the most successful Empty Bowls ever, and moving into our new space where initially we will feed 1,000 kids with a goal to reach 3,000 children! As TABLE grows more everyday, TABLE is facing a challenge we have never seen in our history: a waitlist of over 300 kids and growing. We are living in a time where inflation is at its highest and it’s challenging to reach more donors. We need help now more than ever if we want to continue to give the children in our community healthy, sustainable lives. Please follow us to continue to learn more about us and ways you can help. https://tablenc.org #foodinsecurity #feedinglocalkids #orangecounty #helpingkids #nonprofit #tableinc #tablehistory

Registered Dietitian Nutritionist | Nutrition Communicator | Food Allergy Dietitian | Compulsively Curious
This is such an important perspective about food.
How are food and justice linked? How can we change the way our society approaches nutrition? How can businesses and individuals be a part of that? Maya Feller is a nationally recognized, registered dietician-nutritionist who brings a culturally sensitive approach to her work. Curt Ellis is the CEO of FoodCorps, a nonprofit focused on food justice and education. When I sat down with the two of them in Aspen, we talked about how to infuse culture, connection, and community into food. “I think there's also a dimension to it that's about the joy and power of food. It's about how do we have food, not just be a tool for physical health and well-being, but for community health and well-being.” Join Irving, Curt and Maya from #AspenIdeasFestival as they dive into how can we change the way society approaches nutrition for this new episode of #ForcesForGood 🎧 https://lnkd.in/eyjTGf6p

Community Opportunity- Health Literacy on Becoming a Blood Donor Five Things NOT To Do Before Giving Blood 🚫Don't eat immediately before donating. ... 🚫Don't give blood if you feel sick. ... 🚫Don't worry about drinking coffee, tea or any other caffeinated beverages before donating. ... 🚭Don't smoke or drink alcoholic beverages before donating. ... 🚫Don't stay up too late the night before. The removal of red blood cells depletes iron stores from your body, which can take about eight weeks to replace. If you don’t have enough iron stored away prior to giving blood, you could become anemic, which can make you feel tired and weak. THREE Things To Prepare for Donating Blood 🩸Iron-rich foods include red meat, eggs, poultry, fish and leafy green vegetables (spinach, greens, or kale) iron-fortified cereals and raisins. 🩸Vitamin C helps your body absorb more iron, which can help your body replenish itself and avoid iron deficiency. Reach for citrus fruits, pineapples, mangoes or Brussels sprouts. 🩸Stay Calm, increased stress or nervousness will increase your Blood pressure and heart rate. BW4HL provides a safe and calm space for our Sickle Cell Blood Donors. After you donate blood, we will offer light refreshments ( Walking Tacos) to help your body replenish the nutrients you’ve lost. It’s important to eat something, as your body needs to regain energy to rebuild lost cells. You should also avoid too much caffeine, as it can lead to dehydration and exhaustion. Continue to stay hydrated and avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours. September 23rd at Corinthian Baptist Church 814 School St Des Moines IA 50309 Please register online at www.redcrossblood.org using the Sponsor CODE BW4HL If you have any questions or concerns please contact Us at info@bw4hl.org or 515-219-4300. #BW4HL #americanredcross #SickleCellAwareness #weareinthistogether

One year ago on September 28th, 2022, President Biden hosted The White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition and Health - the first conference of this kind to be held in over 50 years. At that time the White House released a National Strategy and announced over $8 billion of external commitments to achieve Biden's bold goal of ending #hunger and reducing diet related #disease by 2030 - all while closing disparities among the communities that are impacted most. In support of the White House Conference and the Administration’s ambitious plan, the Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation committed to awarding $10 million by 2030 to nonprofit community organizations that are improving #foodaccess and affordability through the implementation of transformative and #sustainable solutions. Now a year later, we’re well on our way of meeting that goal! Over the last 12 months, #StopHunger has awarded over $2,000,000 to nonprofit organizations through our #foodaid programs like Summer Feeding, Food Backpack and On-Campus Pantry grants, as well as advancing efforts in food recovery and donation, workforce development and culinary and nutrition #education. “Our mission is to ensure that every child in the U.S. grows up with dependable access to nutritious food, and the commitment helps bring us closer to that goal,” Roxanne Moore MS, RDN, PMP, DASM, executive director of Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation, said. “We are proud to continue our work and are hopeful that the White House’s national strategy to end food insecurity will build momentum towards our goal of eradicating hunger”.
