Did you know that climate change is having a disproportionate impact on refugees and displaced people? Many families forced to flee are living in climate vulnerable “hotspots” and having to adapt to an increasingly inhospitable environment. Despite the challenges they face, around the world many displaced people are stepping up and taking a stand against the global climate crisis. Here are some of the everyday heroes who are fighting on the frontlines of the global climate crisis. 👇

The looming crisis of climate refugees: What can we do? The impacts of global warming are becoming increasingly stark, and one of the most pressing issues is the displacement of people due to climate-related events. From rising sea levels to extreme weather events, millions are already being forced to leave their homes, and this number is expected to rise dramatically if we don't act. As individuals, we can all play a role in mitigating climate change and supporting those already affected. Here are a few steps we can take: * Reduce our carbon footprint: Make conscious choices to reduce our energy consumption, use sustainable transportation, and support eco-friendly businesses. * Advocate for climate action: Contact our elected officials and urge them to support policies that address climate change. * Donate to organizations: Support organizations working to help climate refugees and build resilience in vulnerable communities. Remember, every action counts. Let's work together to create a more sustainable future for everyone. #climatechange #climaterefugees #sustainability #corporateresponsibility #takeaction

Coastal communities in the developing world are more vulnerable to to the impacts of climate change and face significant threats from storms, rising sea levels, and flooding. Without proactive interventions and investments in climate adaptation and resilience, these communities will suffer disproportionately, thereby hindering global efforts in achieving the SDGs, particularly in eradicating poverty. Everything we can do to decrease emissions matters, because every fraction of a degree of warming increases the length of droughts, the strength of hurricanes, and the intensity of heat waves. https://lnkd.in/eyJuPWDQ

Today, on #WorldRefugeeDay, we face a double challenge: in addition to global hotspots, ongoing #climate change is forcing millions of people to flee their homes. In mid-2023, climate-related disasters alone had forced some 36.7 million people to leave their homes. This is the highest number in a decade. Another alarming sign of the urgency of effective climate action. Reducing CO2 emissions is a crucial step towards limiting global warming and mitigating extreme weather such as floods, drought, and aridity. This is not only an environmental goal, but also a deeply humanitarian one - less CO2 means fewer people displaced from their homes. Let's use today as an opportunity to both work for peace in the many crisis areas around the world and to step up our efforts to protect the climate. Only together can we effectively address the causes and effects of global refugee movements 💪🌿 Read more about the role of climate change in global refugee movements on our blog: https://lnkd.in/eW2AGveM. #Viega #Sustainability

Our future, our safety! ⛑️ This year’s theme for Disaster Risk Reduction Day is “fighting inequality for a resilient future” which acknowledges the undeniable link between inequality and disaster vulnerability. As climate-related extreme weather intensifies and becomes more frequent, adaptation with equity at its core is essential! We must protect European citizens' livelihoods, especially those who are more vulnerable or traditionally hit more harshly by climate change.
