The first in a series in which I grow increasingly aware of my mortality as we interview our current crop of interns.
It's a staple of every summer at LJC to welcome a new intern class to our offices! 👏 Working with students is always a ton of fun, and this year, we decided to put the class of 2024 to the test with some LJC trivia. Check out the first installment of our intern pop quiz as they tackle the trivia question: What year was LJC founded? 🤔 Here's a hint: while our firm was founded in 1999, it was incorporated with LJC in 2019. Check out their answers and let us know yours in the comments below! ⬇️

I'll be honest, I don't know if this is typical or not - my gut says no - but this is clearly a company that truly believes each of those people is part of the San Francisco 49ers team. They don't play on the field, but this shows these individuals that you believe their work helped the team accomplish its goals. And while I could be wrong, something tells me they do more things like this that we don't hear about. #teamwork #leadership #teamdevelopment #culture

This is a great example of inclusive organizational #leadership! While it’s not always possible to fly every FTE to every event, I applaud the 49ers for setting an example here — especially in the era of hyper-segmentation and favoritism amongst teams. Finding a way to acknowledge the contribution of all employees, whenever possible, goes a long way toward reducing silos, decreasing intra-office resentment, creating healthy workplace culture, and motivating folks to do their best work. #Superbowl #inclusion #culture #belonging

The Better Futures Institute, in collaboration with the City of San Antonio, will host a series of conversations about the future of cities during the Civic Tech Scholars internship program. These conversations will focus on understanding the roles of public city officials, urban resilience, civic engagement, and the impact of civic technology and innovation in shaping the future of cities. We think of the future as something we all create together, not something that's already decided and waiting for us: The future is a group project. By creating spaces for dialogue and understanding the diverse needs of our communities, we're turning aspirations into actionable plans—come and help us build a future that benefits everyone. #BetterFuturesConversations Session 1: Urban Planning & Public Infrastructure This session will provide insights into the role of urban planning and public infrastructure in shaping a sustainable and resilient San Antonio, and explore innovative solutions and community place-making strategies that can enhance the quality of life for our city’s population. https://lnkd.in/gu72S6BR #betterfutures #betterfuturesinstitute #civictech #steameducation #stem

Today, a new report from the Center for an Urban Future and The Bronx Community Foundation outlines actionable proposals from 50 influential Bronxites to enhance the borough's economic and social landscape. One notable idea, originating from our Hostos President Daisy Cocco De Filippis, is the creation of a year-long internship or work-study program for CUNY students in the Bronx. This initiative aims to bridge the gap between academia and practical experience while bolstering economic development and opportunities for Bronx residents. The report underscores the Bronx's pivotal role in New York City's economy, highlighting its substantial job growth and the imperative to address persistent challenges in affordability and access to essential services for its residents. On Friday we waved off the AJ Bell Summer Intern intake for 2023… As ever, the quality of all the intake has blown us away as they worked on two great projects designed to have an impact in the future, namely the creation of ‘real time’ factsheets and developing an internal LLM to answer DDQs into the investment team (or ChatDDQ as they called it). I know I say this every year, but it’s never been truer. The quality of undergrads and recent grads that come through our doors is wayyyy beyond the quality of graduate from 10 or 20 years ago. Much more rounded. Much more mature. Hard working and with a clear focus on what they want to do in the future. For all the headlines of ‘Gen Z snowflakes’, this press characterisation bears no resemblance at all to the reality of what we see working with these students - and remember this cohort are those students most impacted by the covid lockdowns. Whilst they’ve hopefully learned lots about the industry and themselves, they’ve taught us plenty along the way as well. For example…did you know? 🐬 Dolphins intentionally get stung by pufferfish, cause is gives them a ‘high’ 🚗 The economics of running your car on cooking oil are very attractive given the tax advantages 🚂 The organisation of the train network is beyond complex! 🕺 Ballroom dancing is incredibly popular in China where Blackpool is seen as a magical place 📋 it’s possible to hack the MS Office clipboard so that the (CTRL+C) becomes the input to a function where the output can be delivered via (CTRL+V) 🤯 The class of 2023: Abdur-Rahman Cheema Cate Levinson Elle Grime Jack Wragg Jan Röttger Karun Kirubananthan Krzysztof Dziuba Manshi G. Oliver Webb Timothy Lalujan Will Trinder Zijian Tian The industry is in safe hands 🙏
