People work to earn an income, achieve career goals, deliver results, and other rewarding reasons. There is also a deeper need for meaningful #connection with one another. Work is not the only place for connection. But it is one in which many of us spend a significant portion of our time. Today, I got to facilitate an engaging and powerful conversation with various colleagues at T-Mobile about #codeswitching and #belongingness. The conversation was empowered by the brilliant Kim Berney-Brooke, founder and belongingness coach at Uneven Surfaces (https://lnkd.in/empXj5Bd). I am blessed in that I get to co-create a courageous and safe space for conversations in which people may connect, learn, and be encouraged to show up as their whole selves and empower others to do so, too. I wish I could bottle up the resonance from today's conversation and share it with everyone I know. Some of my key learnings (and re-learnings): - Code-switching can be helpful but also cognitively taxing 🧠 - Belonging is an action; belongingness is a climate in which people can feel safe and belong 💡 - Belongingness is a fundamental human need ❤️ - Every day, through big and small actions, I can build a sense of belongingness around me 🤲🏾 Kim, thank you for sharing your expertise on belongingness, combining organizational psychology, neuroscience, and your experience in organizations.
