In the last three decades of my professional life, if I were to pick one principle that has guided me consistently and helped me build winning teams and deliver transformational projects, then it would be empathy.   Empathy isn’t about being soft. It is about recognizing and accepting that we all have different strengths, weaknesses, fears, apprehensions, and aspirations. But that’s where the beauty lies. When we listen and understand each other with open hearts, we build real connections.   I am convinced that people don’t always work for paychecks. When they feel valued and supported, they go above and beyond. When employees feel safe and are assured that they will not be judged, they think innovatively and share their ideas. When people respect each other, communication happens seamlessly.   That’s why empathy should not be limited to individual interactions.
