What an honor to join the The Consumer Goods Forum's board members. Today's challenges are such that we need to unite companies of all sizes to face them, to inspire and to accomplish the transformation towards a more sustainable food model. Through bringing retailers and industry players together, the Consumer Goods Forum is a key enabler in this race. Even I want DEI to die. Let all those practices die which are just a tick in the box. 📌The force fitting system just to show diversity numbers to the board - yes must die! 📌Those specific day celebrations with nothing ahead and beyond - should die! 📌The disability washrooms which are being used as cloak room / storage room - needs to die! 📌Those inclusive leadership training with leaders who don’t understand the importance of having diversity and have no inclination either - yes die! 📌The times when women are given seat on the table but not a chance to be heard - got to be dead! 📌All those employer branding agendas used to promote the organisation as inclusive org with nothing at the core - die! We need to kill and let all those practices die where DEI was just a mere token and nothing more. Analysing Braverman's tenure underscores a critical realisation: having a diverse figurehead doesn't automatically translate to diverse thinking. True diversity encompasses a spectrum of perspectives, not just a diverse outward appearance. Leadership should champion inclusivity of thought, valuing varied insights and experiences. It's about fostering an environment where diverse voices are not just present but actively heard and considered. In the discussion on the global leadership crisis, one reason that comes up often is the continued use of old-fashioned and obsolete theories and models of leadership in a global environment that has changed drastically. So when we think only a certain type of people can be leaders and set the criteria narrowly and exclusively as such, we end up getting them all lined up as a ‘man-el’ of candidates (as opposed to panel). One also has his supporters lined up as a ‘man-el’ today in the news report that she just read over dinner, after all that have been said about the posts and videos. It was why she asked half-jokingly our current Madam President at the WorkWell Leaders Awards and Gala dinner in March this year to consider running for a second term. It’s not difficult to guess then that there would not be much diversity quotient to be had with the revised criteria. This is especially glaring after a year of celebrating SG women. We have to think who is the best candidate from the current 3 choices when we go to the poll next Friday. But beyond that, we must also ask for more congruency across our policies when it comes to diversity and inclusion. Or we will be saying one thing and doing another which is insincere. #afterdinnerrambling
