We had a blast attending the Emerging Leadership Board of the UW Carbone Cancer Center's event, Trivia with Andy North and Friends, at The Sylvee last night! Our remote team always enjoys getting together IRL, but we especially appreciated the chance to support such a great cause and benefit the UW Carbone Cancer Center.

Looking forward to the "debate", Kapil Dhingra. Let's see where we all land on balancing a move to increasing our understanding of a patient's particular tumor, with precision of the diagnostics and patient segmentation that implies, versus the advancing of therapeutics that obviate the need for such by their broadness of activity while maintaining a good therapeutic index (like ADCs?), or actually are therapies that are multifunctional to address the heterogeneity and plasticity of the cancer.

Thrilled to share a pre-print from our National Cancer Institute (NCI)-Washington University in St. Louis collaboration! This study demonstrates that, using fragment characteristics of blood plasma cell free DNA (#cfDNA), we are able to detect not only the aggressive cancer #MPNST (most common cause of premature death in cancer predisposition #neurofibromatosis) but also its #precancer tumor the atypical neurofibroma (AN). This has huge clinical implications: MPNST are treatment resistant sarcoma whose only current treatment is surgery. Because MPNST evolve from within benign tumors in NF1, however, their diagnosis is often delayed and the tumors are frequently inoperable. Interception of their pre-malignant precursor, therefore, would enable early and less morbid curative intervention! We believe that this study serves as a blueprint for #liquibiopsy surveillance in other #cancer predisposition syndromes. #cancerprevention We are incredibly appreciative of Children's Tumor Foundation and Neurofibromatosis Therapeutic Acceleration Program's support that has made this study possible. And, of course, I am beyond grateful to the people with #NF1, their family members, and caregivers who continue to support and inspire this work! Check out our medRxiv pre-print here: https://lnkd.in/eF4Aw4Hv Or, for the Cliffs Notes version, our tweetorial: https://lnkd.in/eiNrE5BK
Checkout our latest, out now on medRxiv! We go after early cancer (and pre-cancer) detection of NF1 MPNST sarcoma using cell-free DNA fragmentomics. Excited as this helps pave the way towards better screening and more precise management for these patients! Multi-institutional collab between WashU and the National Cancer Institute (NCI). Proud of our team, especially first authors R. Taylor Sundby, MD, Jeff Szymanski and Alex Pan. Grateful to my co-senior authors Angela Hirbe and Jack Shern. https://lnkd.in/guzrb3sx

Cancer screening, cancer diagnosis, cancer treatment and cancer survival should not depend on countries, on postcodes, on maps, on streets, on cities or on any other sides or parts of Europe. The cancer care gap today is UNCONSCIONABLE when the percentage of women who never had a breast cancer screening in Romania is 71 times higher than in Finland. We have to rewrite the story of cancer: equal access, equal chance for every European.
On World Cancer Day we are reflecting upon our mission as the voice of the European Cancer Community. 🩺 Watch this video 🎥 of our President, Prof. Csaba Dégi, to hear more about ECO in ‘closing the care gap’ in Europe and beyond 👇

Sharing this post from the latest work from my friend Monica Marulanda. It is a known fact that early detection saves lives! Cancer screening helps detect abnormalities before symptoms appear, increasing the chances of successful treatment. Routine screenings can detect cancer at its earliest stages when treatment is most effective, emphasizing the need for regular check-ups. But most importantly, access to cancer screening should be equitable, addressing disparities in healthcare access and ensuring all individuals have the opportunity for early detection and treatment. Let's continue to get tested and help raise awareness 💕 #CancerAwareness #EarlyDetectionSavesLives #PersonalizedCare #ScreeningGuidelines #TeamworkForHealth
On World Cancer Day, we're honored to share a special piece of work from our team in partnership with Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center: a bilingual short film, Late. Directed by Rodrigo Garcia Saiz, a cancer survivor with a personal connection to the film’s narrative, Late tells a love story that’s shaped by the moments of being late, while also emphasizing the indispensable role of timing in life. With Late, we hope to raise awareness around the prevalence of cancer in the Hispanic community and underscore the importance of regular cancer screenings. Watch the long version below and learn more at GETCHECKEDATIEMPO.COM. Special thank you to our partners at MSK for their passion in bringing this story to life.
