Another turbulent week in the capital markets: Last Thursday regulators issued a document that in-part proposes for larger U.S. banks to hold more assets on their books for each loan they make. Although it may be years before finalized legislation takes effect, it is expected that the new proposal will immediately begin to further reduce the banking sectors appetite for commercial real estate. Expected to fill the void? Private debt funds. The new reality likely results in higher overall costs of capital for commercial assets as private debt continue to capture additional market share. #realestate #commercialrealestate #capitalmarkets #finance #CRE

Why the obsession with the fixed deposits in the bank and Post offices? To protect the Capital. While the risk to Capital has been thought of, what, about the erosion of the maturity value due to inflation and the impact of tax on income. The financial goals in the medium and long term like children higher education, their marriage or acquiring of dwelling unit gets impacted. Risk is also a function of time. What may be a risk in short term may cease to be so in the medium or long term and what was not a risk in short and medium term may get to be risky in the long term. The income differential of 3% - 7% on a yearly basis over a long term between fixed deposits and a diversified multi asset portfolio can only be disregarded at one’s own financial peril.
