Rate Cuts Could Make Things Worse for Banks Before They Help - Lenders could get caught between falling yields and rising deposit costs, especially if loan growth is slow - The first small decline in rates probably won’t by itself stimulate a huge amount of new lending. Yet it will start to eat into banks’ interest earnings on their cash, and on floating-rate loans tied to benchmark rates, like credit cards or corporate revolvers. And a lot of depositors are probably still going to be looking for a good return on their cash. https://lnkd.in/gitXVMhH

Costlier lending rates have been blamed on recent policy measures such as approvals of risk-based loan pricing combined with competition for cash among players. The benchmark lending rate for banks is now at a seven-year high after it hit peaks last seen in 2016, setting up consumers for another season of costly loans. https://lnkd.in/dGD6htjr #credit #inflation #lending #banks #centralbank

Deposits in banks has reached the highest ever level of > Rs 25 Tr on the back of highest markup rates. it's good that people are saving but it's detrimental to economic growth as money is not finding its way to manufacturing and other businesses. #banking #deposits #KIBOR #sbp #monetarypolicy https://lnkd.in/gzb_vZw5

Bank Auto Lending YoY continues to fall well into negative territory. Note that same time last year, it was just hitting negative, thus the base effect indicates the slide is worsening. I still believe auto market deflation and credit concerns will be a major subject. Time will tell. #finance #investment #uk #us
