I don't know what happened here, but if both the New York Times and the Financial Times defected, then that might be sign that the Biden campaign is toast (kaputt). I am not sure what the heads of the Dem party hope to gain by fighting a battle they can't possibly win, since even if they (by some miracle) managed to get Biden elected, he would not make it to the year 2028 on his two feet. We strike out the idea that Vice-President Kamala Harris is trying to get him elected one way or the other, so that she can succeed him after he died prematurely! So, what's left, as "good reason"? The Democrat party, having lost the support of the media after having lost the support of Americans (especially in New York on the West Coast, where their policy were attempeted) risks implosion now. I believe they made the typical error that kills parties in democratic countries: instead of balancing the public interest of their voters, and the private interest of their great donors, they went full hog on doing exactly what the second wanted even if they disappointed the promises to the first -- counting on their donors' money to make up for the inevitable loss of popularity. There is a little problem with that: with PR money, you can sway people who might like you; but no amount will rebuild confidence in people who feel betrayed. Blatantly lie only once to a constituent's face, they might never trust you again. And word of mouth is still the most effective PR there is. What I will say may be sound idiotic but it is fact: donors pay for rallies and minutes on TV and space on social media; but when all is said and done, a big donor is exactly one voice: the voters are the ones who vote. So if you openly disregard your constituency in times of crisis, by ruthlessly forcing your donors' policies and ideologies down the throats of your voters despite their vocal objections, you are flushing your own party down the toilet. Just saying. I guess America can survive without the Democrat party. Another one will surely be founded soon after.

Enshittification! Not my word, but I wish it was. Instead we can thank Cory Doctorow, who writes about the concept in the Financial Times. Learn this word - you will hear it again. It is a amusing and pithy title for a very interesting, perhaps even important theory on why so many tech platforms - and lots of other businesses - fail to follow up on their early promises to their customers. To steal Cory's own summary: - First, platforms are good to their users; - Then they abuse their users to make things better for their business customers; - Finally, they abuse those business customers to claw back all the value for themselves. AKA Enshittification. The article is not all gloom, and reminds us of the tools through which enshittification can be resisted and reversed. Also, read it to understand why so many companies want to you use their app rather than their website. Also, how enshittifcation can spill out of the tech world into other businesses. Thanks to our colleague Emma Mack, we have insight from reading her post about a spat she witnessed between two people in an intimate relationship out on the street, possibly after having too much to drink and letting things get out of control. 💭 It got me thinking. I often see couples struggle with this dilemma. One partner feels compelled to express intense emotions, regardless of who’s around, while the other feels embarrassed and exposed. It’s crucial to find a middle ground where, when and how communication can happen safely. 👉 Remember, it’s okay to pause and choose the right time and place for these conversations. It's okay to lay out some ground rules ahead of time and mutually agree on them. Ignoring issues won’t help, but addressing them in a healthy way will. ⚖ Finding balance and mutual respect is key. If you can take a timeout, really pump the breaks, emotionally regulate, and pick the right time, place and feel that works for both parties, you’ll be able to discuss the issue in an open and respectful manner (with no one staring at you). ⚠ The most important thing at that point is to implement that communication plan. Glossing over issues, ignoring them, or never revisiting them can lead to feelings of neglect and lack of importance.
