Foxconn leased land for a factory in Bac Giang
Foxconn, the iPhone manufacturer for Apple, has signed a contract to lease 45 hectares of land from Saigon - Bac Giang Industrial Park Joint Stock Company in Vietnam at a cost of 62.5 million USD. This move is made to meet the “operational needs and capacity expansion” of the company. Foxconn, officially known as Hon Hai Precision Industry, leased through its subsidiary Fulian Precision Technology, located in Quang Chau Industrial Park, Bac Giang province. The lease contract lasts until February 2057.
Previously, in August 2022, Foxconn signed an investment agreement of 300 million USD to build a new factory in Bac Giang. However, it is not clear what devices this tech giant will manufacture at the new factory. Last year, Foxconn’s manufacturing operations were severely affected by protests against COVID-19 control policies at the company’s largest iPhone manufacturing plant in the world in Zhengzhou, China.
In that context, at the end of December 2022, Foxconn completed plans to transfer some MacBook manufacturing operations to Vietnam, with the first products expected to be released in early May this year. Foxconn also plans to quadruple its workforce at the iPhone manufacturing plant in India within two years. The company announced an investment of 500 million USD in its subsidiary in India in December 2022.
These steps show that Foxconn is striving to expand its manufacturing operations out of China, while seeking new opportunities in other markets such as Vietnam and India.
