🎓 Thrilled to announce the start of my second semester at Harvard Business School and Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences! The first one was a whirlwind filled with learning, connections, and growth. Here are my three key takeaways: 🎯 Understanding My Priorities: With a plethora of choices at HBS, it's crucial to remember why you're here. I've adopted a weekly ranking system for my priorities, balancing networking, self-care, fun with close ones, and academics. This method helps me reflect on which aspects I am placing more value on, while not feeling overwhelmed. 🤩 Curiosity with Authenticity: Diving into new concepts and integrating them with my personal ambitions has been exhilarating. Buzzwords like "Private Equity" and "Venture Capital" are becoming part of my vocabulary. However, I'm mindful to pursue my genuine interests rather than getting swept up in the hype. Stay curious, but keep it real with what you're after. 🏫 Being Present: At HBS, it's common to fixate on the future—envisioning post-grad jobs, career trajectories, and dream cities. I'm learning the art of living in the present. There's so much to enjoy at HBS: the people from all over the globe and all the knowledge at our fingertips. One of the many things I enjoy about life is the opportunity to not only give back but also to teach back. I was fortunate enough some 15 years ago to earn my MBA and had no idea it would be used in the capacity it is today. Using my MBA to teach incarcerated students pursuing undergraduate degrees never crossed my mind; however, in 2017, that’s what I had the opportunity to do. I understand life's journey isn’t all butterflies and rainbows, and many of us walk paths that the strongest of us would find difficult to survive. As I prepare for my 8th semester teaching some of the hardest working students I have the privilege of learning from and with, I always take with me some lessons. - The students show up to learn, be prepared to teach - Always be fair and flexible in teaching style - Master your subject, discipline, and craft because this is where the magic of teaching lives - Make it fun for the students and you I am but one adjunct instructor along their path toward graduation, but I pour my heart into my lessons, as evidenced by my syllabus below.
