This week's 'Thursday's Thought' is one that I feel transcends purely a sporting record, and shines a light on true grit, determination, resilience, and belief. Attributes we can all learn from. Overnight Sir Mark Cavendish KBE (Cav) broke the long-standing record for the most Tour De France (TDF) stage wins (35), previously held by Eddy Merckx. Now this is not only a sporting 'win' but, when you begin to understand Cav's journey, one that has overcome more than most Athletes.. Cav won his first TDF stage back in 2008, and across his career has 165 professional wins, including World Championships on the Road and the Track. Alongside his wins, he has had to overcome two bouts of Epstein–Barr virus (EBV), and numerous injuries that kept him from breaking this record. Now none of us are Cav, but why I chose this as my weekly post, is that in our own careers we are identified as being talented early in our pathway, just as Cav's early Coaches and Mentors saw such talent. The support of those around us, that can see our potential, is another parallel with Elite Athletes, and when times get tough, when we have set backs, like Athletes we double down and 'get back in the saddle' in our work. We may not ever stand on the top step of the dais, or wear the rainbow or green jersey, but once again we can all learn from Athletes like Cav and try to get to the line first, in our own race; with grit, determination, resilience, and belief. Chapeau Cav, chapeau. #athletewellbeingandengagement #grit #determination #resilience #belief #careers #careerdevelopment #support #talentidentification #eliteperformence

Experienced Non-Profit Senior Executive, Dream Big Go Big and Encourage and Take Care of Each Other Leader Ideology
Good News Friday is here! Now, whether you are a basketball fan or not, an Oakland University fan or not, last night was an absolute lesson in how one identifies where they are and sees the Dream where they want to go as Oakland upset Kentucky in the NCAA tournament, a 14 seed beating a 3 seed and powerhouse. The article I am reposting from Front Office Sports provides an insight to an individual who was a redshirt freshman at an DII school but whose dream was to be on the court with the best. If you follow basketball, this is a Dream, and one that takes what I hope every leader is willing to admit they need: 🌄 Willing to dream - Let lose, dream at work and dream at home, be willing to do it! You did it as a kid, you can do it again! Remember your dreams as a kid, you wanted to be the best at a certain sport, hobby, whatever it was and you would do everything to make it happen. Some of our best inventions and leaders have been those that dared to dream. People love to get behind a Dream! 🗣 Others - This individual, Jack Gohlke, needed coaches, trainers, his teammates, and many others at the university to be successful. Are you willing to let others help you be successful? 👷♂️ Hard Work - There will never be a substitute for this, and I am not talking about being so consumed that you don't have time for your family, others, or have horrible balance. But when you are in the arena, when you are in practice, when you are at work, you are giving your best, because you know the dream is worth it. Allowing yourself to dream, allowing others to help, working hard, are three great ways to see your life, both professional and personal, go to the next level! Have a powerful day and you have what it takes! #Dream #DreamBigGoBig #EncourageAndTakeCareOfEachOther
Five years ago, Jack Gohlke was a redshirt freshman at Division II Hillsdale College. Last night, he made 10 three-point shots and scored 32 points as 14-seed Oakland upset 3-seed Kentucky in the NCAA Tournament. #BusinessOfTheMadness | Acura (📸: Gregory Fisher/USA Today)

Following along with the ongoing NCAA Convention panels and sessions, there are some invaluable lessons to gained. From the NIL session hosted Thursday afternoon with a handful of current and former collegiate student-athletes that have participated in NIL opportunities, I have a few takeaways: • Student-athletes can and should review the available applications to find opportunities in NIL marketplaces, and not shy away from spreading their profile and brand across a multitude of these applications. • Understand the contracts and deals you are pursuing, particularly in differentiating exclusive and non-exclusive deals and partnerships. • There is a need to dispel the myth of the get rich quick idea of NIL deals when the deals can be the difference between continuing education while competing as a student-athlete. An NIL deal for athletes can be the matter of being able to pay for books or “ordering queso at Chipotle.” • For student-athletes, NIL deals can expand beyond the immediacy of a financial benefit while still enrolled in school. There are additional opportunities to establish connections following the completion of a degree. I highly recommend giving this session a listen, but also checking out the additional sessions on the NCAA's page below: #ncaa #nameimagelikeness #collegesports #sports

I came across this picture this morning ....and honestly this irked and disturbed me both! First of all, for any race to be qualified as a race the very first condition to be met, is that everyone should have the same starting point. And this very genesis is flawed in real life. No two people have the same starting position in life, leave alone the society as a whole. The second condition is that because it's a race there has to be a winner and hence by design a loser as well. Unfortunately our society is conditioned to celebrate the winners, the titles, the medals and not necessarily the distance covered. so everyone feels the pressure to reach for their finish line...in process, we either push/hurt others or we run out of breath. People start from different walks of life with different advantages or disadvantages over the others. Sometimes even those who does get an headstart advantage can go through different experiences that set them back two or more steps. But they still make that extra efforts to bounce back. But as society we don't see that and yet measure them how far they are from the winning line. As leaders, as human beings and as a larger society, let's stop glorifying winners and races outside of the Olympic track and fields. Instead, let's applaud the journeys of people, reward the distances covered in the attempt to move forward, the efforts made to bounce back from every physical, emotional and mental breakdowns and setbacks to come back on track. Only then we can breed a collective society of real winners of life and hence in every other aspect of life.

What are the Educational, Health, or Economic Benefits to these Players and their Families for that kids uncompensated participation in any additional “NON-SCHOLARSHIP” private third-party postseason football games that pay the Universities and the Conferences for the use of their free labor to put on these highly profitable Bowl events. The answer is ZERO! These additional 1-5 POSTSEASON games are also above the Players’ 12 game athletic scholarship agreement? Our Proposal offers Major Benefits in all three Categories to the Players and their Families! Scholarship Football Players are owed Hundreds of Millions of dollars from this year’s Media contract that uses these Players’ Name, Image, and Likeness NIL without any equitable financial consideration to the Players or their Families! This lost Money could have a major impact on these Players lives, the lives of their current and future family members for generations? We do not support, or agree with the House vs NCAA Settlement or the current covert attempts to extend and expand this Antitrust exploitation of our young (mostly minority) FB & BB Players' labor that the US Supreme Court and Federal District Court have recently struck down as illegal and implausible.
We are gearing up to welcome our 200+ athletes and administrators tomorrow to our third annual #NILSummit in Atlanta, GA at the College Football Hall of Fame 🏈 If you are attending the event this weekend, please feel free to reach out and connect! Student Athlete NIL #NIL #NILDeals #collegeathletes
