I had the incredible opportunity to attend my first #Cannes last week, immersing myself in insights from top leaders in #commercemedia & #retailmedia. It's remarkable how far we've come, with retail media now taking center stage at Cannes, expanding beyond retail with new launches like Kinective Media℠ by United Airlines and Chase Media Solutions. My observations: 💰 Commerce Media is the topic du jour, with companies still defining their 'commerce media play' ⬆ Moving 'full funnel' is a major focus, crucial for meeting advertisers' holistic objectives (and tapping new budgets) 📊 Enhanced focus on customer data for better measurement 🤝 Partnerships are vital for scaling businesses and driving GTM strategies 🌴 Turns out the French Riviera is really nice - all conferences should be there 😂 And yet, having built a number of these businesses and now transitioning to a tech challenger at Moloco, I couldn't get the following out of my mind: **Which media network will innovate and stand out?** In major industry shifts like commerce media, winners emerge. This growth phase feels reminiscent of past tech shifts (programmatic, social, search, mobile), with winners and losers in the making. And yet, I am seeing a lot of 'sameness' in the recipe across networks. Retail Media is akin to its 'teenage years' (HT: Amir Rasekh) - which means its ripe for growth and differentiation. As we navigate this landscape at Moloco, we have a perspective on what will set leaders apart. What do you think? Great week connecting with old colleagues and making new ones. Reflections: 1) It cost up to $600K to build an enterprise eCommerce site in the 2000's, today you can do it for free on multiple platforms. Technology as a competitive edge and barrier is fleeting. 2) Media measurement is still in transition and alignment to new viewer behavior still has ways to go. 3) Diversity in thought, background, perspective is great business.
