🌳🛰️ New #AI method that identifies #Amazon native tree species that has #economic value in the #market is launched by Embrapa so that investments in #bioeconomy is more profitable than #deforesting! This #Tech brings together a set of algorithms trained to recognize #forest species, increasing management accuracy and efficiency. With #trees such as Brazil nut, cumaru, açaí and cedar, the success rate already reaches 95%. The adoption of #AI tools is capable of reducing forest #mapping costs. Methodology can increase the #mapping capacity of the inventoried area by up to 100 times, compared to the traditional method. The #algorithm training database is the result of a survey of more than 40 thousand hectares of forest in Acre, Rondônia and Southern Amazonas, using #drones. #Embrapa's goal is to map 80 thousand hectares of forest, including new areas of hashtag#commercial interest in the Amazon. This is quite interesting and AI applied to EO (Earth Observation) will surprise us even more in the years ahead. But these tools have to be encompassed with the accurate governance of territories and landscapes; otherwise the amazon mafia will destroy the most valuable first, as it has happened before.

Tree-hugging AI to rescue the Amazon forest. Curupira, a small AI box, named after a folkloric forest creature who preys on hunters and poachers, uses sensors and software to identify the sounds of chainsaws and tractors. Once the threat is detected, it's sent to agents to deal with it. Curupira detects threats in real time unlike satellite data which reveal deforestation only after the fact. AI IN THE RAINFOREST SOUNDS THE ALARM WHEN IT HEARS THE NOISE OF CHAINSAWS For some time now, attempts have been made in various countries to record and analyze ambient noise in the rainforest using special software with the aim of identifying patterns that indicate illegal logging. This includes, for example, the noise of chainsaws and tractors. Researchers at Amazonas State University in Manaus have further developed this technology with the help of AI so that only the noise of chainsaws and tractors is recorded and not the normal forest sounds of vegetation, animals or rain. The small boxes with sensors, AI and batteries look like an internet modem and are attached to trees. They transmit the recorded sounds in real time via satellite to a central point from which the responsible authorities are immediately informed of any threats to the forest. The pilot phase of this technology has been completed. Its further use depends on the financing of the approx. 200-300 US$ per box. 🌿AI news from the heart of the Amazon. In Brazil, efforts are underway to combat the illegal deforestation of the Amazon rainforest using Artificial Intelligence. Small devices resembling an Internet modem, named "curupiras" after a mythical animal that hunts poachers, are equipped with sensors and AI-powered software trained to recognize sounds such as chainsaws and tractors. Attached to trees, they can signal potential logging attempts. This innovative approach allows for a real-time response, unlike satellite data, which passes on information about deforestation only after the fact. This is made possible thanks to machine learning technology. Curupiras' AI was trained with sound recordings of logging machines, based on which it learned to distinguish these sounds from those typical of the forest, such as the sounds of animals or rain. This type of algorithm training is similar to that which is used in developing AI within PRO.Display, our system used to verify in-store product expositions. The next stage of the project involves adding hundreds of additional sensors, including those capable of detecting forest fires.
