🌳🛰️ New #AI method that identifies #Amazon native tree species that has #economic value in the #market is launched by Embrapa so that investments in #bioeconomy is more profitable than #deforesting! This #Tech brings together a set of algorithms trained to recognize #forest species, increasing management accuracy and efficiency. With #trees such as Brazil nut, cumaru, açaí and cedar, the success rate already reaches 95%. The adoption of #AI tools is capable of reducing forest #mapping costs from around R$140 per #hectare to approximately R$6. Methodology can increase the #mapping capacity of the inventoried area by up to 100 times, compared to the traditional method. The #algorithm training database is the result of a survey of more than 40 thousand hectares of forest in Acre, Rondônia and Southern Amazonas, using #drones. #Embrapa's goal is to map 80 thousand hectares of forest, including new areas of #commercial interest in the Amazon. Mapping trees that generates #economic value in the #Amazon can help redefining the #value of native forest #ecosystems! Link: https://lnkd.in/dgic4VQr

Do they have to cut the trees to market them?

You put a satellite emoji there but it's important to note that the image is much higher resolution than anything a satellite can offer. Probably a drone image.

Great, however the people who live there need the money NOW. Poverty is driving deforestation and by the time we sort the tec out the question is how many trees will be left. If you can move money to the people i have many contacts in the Amazon waiting.

I am very, very wary of AI in general… but this is a safe and benevolent application. Will Brennan Festus Kiplagat Francis Bosah John Roulac #forestry #agroforestry #remotesensing

Interesting technology, and much in line with our current forestry drone explorations in Suriname! Is the AI tool available for public use?
