It was great to meet and listen to presentations from so many evaluation professionals involved in exciting and important research on policy at yesterday's Creating Better Evidence in Government event. Highlights for me were hearing Ministers and Senior Civil servants endorsing evaluation evidence as critical for Government, and listening to presentations on progress in the projects that received funding Evaluation Accelerator Fund. It was also great to present on theory-based impact evaluation – not an easy brief given what how broad a church is. Thanks to all who attended it and asked questions and gave feedback. Have posted separately with some follow up thoughts on it. #evaluation #evidence #policy

This resonates with the findings from our joint Mathematica & @Results4America report: 1. Cities with strong results-driven contracting practices developed Recovery Plans that better adhere to federal guidance for key data and evidence practices. 2. Cities that effectively engage residents and local organizations strengthen the impact of federal recovery funds by continuing to use data to identify and embed equity. 3. Cities that have been recognized as effectively using data by achieving What Works Cities Certification were better positioned to use data and evidence practices to advance economic recovery, economic mobility and racial equity through State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds funds. Zachary Markovits, Carrie S. Cihak, and Louise Geraghty have an important message for state and local government leaders: make use of time-limited federal American Rescue Plan funds by evaluating your programs *now* to support economic mobility and advance equity in your communities for generations to come. It's also flattering to see Mathematica named in the same company as MDRC, the California Policy Lab, the Minnesota Management and Budget’s Impact Evaluation Unit, and the San Diego County’s Office of Evaluation, Performance, and Analytics, all of whom help agencies maximize impact by building evaluation capacity. https://lnkd.in/eqNDYkQC
