This is a great read (for those with TBJ access). Lots to digest in here. A few highlights: *The new normal (both pre and post Covid) for labor market participation in NC seems to be right around 61%. That felt lower than expected, but it is a tricky (and comprehensive) stat *While demographic shifts (aging out Boomers, declining birth rates) are having their effect nationally, Raleigh and Durham are doing very well, at least compared to the rest of the nation *A lot of this is going to fall on businesses to work with ed/higher ed, workforce development, and other key stakeholders to make sure there is acute awareness of what skills are needed and therefore being taught *Interestingly, "Japan grew its workforce by millions even as its population has shrunk for 12 consecutive years." That is encouraging when we think about innovating our way out of this problem *Lastly, and encouragingly, employers have started to flex to job requirements and reducing barriers to employment. How does this mesh with what you're seeing? #workforce
