Did you know that turnover can cost nonprofits between 30% and 150% of an open position's salary? As we focus on saving money during the hiring process, it's important to consider the true costs of turnover. These costs include reduced revenue, programming, exit fees, recruiting, marketing, fees for headhunters, travel, interviewing, background checks and other screenings, staff time, orientation, training, and admin support to secure paperwork. Retaining talent costs money, but losing talent is costly, too. In our jobs board Discord channel we usually just straight up share job postings - but a little trend we’ve been noticing too is our community doing their due diligence. Yesterday some conversation was sparked around the cost of living. What is a good salary, and does that change depending on where you live? Of course it does! Example: we posted a listing based in NYC. The community saw the listing and immediately raised concerns about the amount of work needed, and for a salary of 60k USD. Some issues were raised: ✅ 60k in NYC is “a pittance” in our communities own words. Those that aren’t living in the area may not be aware as to just HOW expensive it is ✅ a singular role where you have to wear lots of hats should be compensated accordingly ✅ negotiating is good. An employer will always negotiate your hours, pay, benefits, breaks - why shouldn’t you? How do you navigate job hunting in this increasingly expensive world? Do you find that you’re doing a lot more research on roles than you used to? 🤔
