I've noticed many job listings for dual roles like "Content Creator/Social Media manager" Content creation involves various skills like videography, photography, editing, Visual and lighting, directing, mood board creation, and more. Content creators often specialize in one area. On the other hand Social media managers may know content creation but may not excel in creating high quality commercial photo and videos. As someone who does content creation as a Full time gig job descriptions like the one below are appalling. The title of this Job is “Content Creator”. But if you read the description you’ll find that not only are you asking someone to drive your entire social media content creation in the confined space of your retail store you’re ALSO asking them to be a retail store manager, social media manager, videographer, and editor??? At this point those roles are expected on SMM job descriptions. But to then tell this person they’re also a floor retail sales manager from 9-5 M-S is outrageous. And the best part? 45-50k a year based on experience…. Essentially a Content Creator, a Multi Platform Social media manager and a retail store manager/sales associate for the same average salary of a entry level graphic design position. Companies have to stop thinking social media managers and content creators are easy jobs that you can do In your spare time and breaks. We gotta do better.
