Thrilled by the overwhelming appreciation for Intermountain Health’s COPD presentation at HIMSS 2024 which resonated #profoundly with the audience, as we shared insights into our efforts to enhance patient care. Our heartfelt storytelling, including real-life patient experiences, evoked laughter and tears, forging a deep connection with attendees.The palpable #enthusiasm and #emotional bond we felt during the presentation were evident as tears were shed by many participants attending the presentation. We showcased seamless integration of #respiratory services and #datadriven approaches to address patient needs, improve access, and elevate care standards, for underserved communities, and enhance overall care quality. Incredibly honored and proud to have led the team at Intermountain Health and building on our legacy of “world’s firsts”, we secured the HIMSS “First Quadruple Stage 7 Healthcare Organization Worldwide on all the latest adoption models” and earned the distinguished title of the “First Healthcare Organization to Validate on INFRAM24 Globally”. Also claimed the “First Combined Stage 6 & 7 INFRAM24 Validation Worldwide”. The world remembers those who make history. Michael Phelps, the gold medalist, etched his name in the world records, while the silver and bronze medalists faded into the background and were forgotten. Intermountain, in the spirit of true champions will continue to make history and blaze the trail, raising the bar in setting the standards. We made history again and registered these #three achievements in our name. We are not just participating; we are orchestrating history. I feel honored and humbled to have presented the HIMSS Davies body of work at #himss23 with Ryan Cardon, PharmD With surgery being among the top indications for opioid initiation and 6% of opioid naïve patients developing dependence and the disease of addiction, a culture shift with changes to clinical practice are needed. Intermountain Health recognized this need within our communities. In response Intermountain Health began a process of introducing clinical and system driven data into opioid sparing techniques to impact clinical practice. With modifications to the #electronichealthrecord (EHR) to support these initiatives, Intermountain Health was able to decrease the rate of opioid addiction from 3.8% to 0% in 2022. Surgical patients reported improved pain outcomes and more satisfaction with our approach to treating post-operative pain. Our clinical leaders educated providers on the risk associated with opioids and developed opioid free and/or reduced opioid use in the intraoperative space. To meet this challenge, goals were set to increase the use of multimodal pain modalities, decrease in-hospital morphine milligram equivalents required for pain management, reduce pain scores and to reduce the number of opioid prescription tablets prescribed postoperatively.
